The idea that adding a 2nd round pick to Karlsson would get you Doughty is a deeply deluded take.

You get Drew Doughty for 2 years because he’s right handed, one of the best defenseman of his generation and still can hold his own by every measurable statistic.

Not to mention the effect he would have on Power. Byram not getting an extension and Samuelsson out evens out that money.

Doughty has seven teams he can be traded to. Very doubtful Pittsburgh is one of those seven. I actually do think Karlsson would waive for LAK as well.

I could see Doughty going to Carolina or Tampa Bay, or possibly Montreal (?). Maybe even a western team like Dallas or St Louis. Can't see him waiving to not chase a cup. May as well just retire a King in that case.

Karlsson might waive for LA and I could see a role for him there but not at the cost of Doughty. I would say something like EK+ for Spence/Clarke - whoever they prefer to move on from. Or something around Moore. Certainly some plusses on each side to even things out.

As a Penguins fan, no disrespect to Doughty the player but the last thing I want to see them do is bring in older players.

I understand you need some veterans to teach youth the way but the Penguins already have that.

Would rather see them trade aging assets to get any sort of young NHL players or collection of picks possible.
