Donato is now leading his team in pts (Donato Thread)

Grats to Ryan, did not think he would pull it off and have a career after his showing in Minn

Way to prove most of us wrong. Keep going!

I just saw a YouTube analysis of why. Is Donato on the same line as Bedard?

If yes what is the breakdown of Bedard being on the ice for Donato’s goals

If you look at the guys who are making 6 mil+ Donato is out producing alot of them.

As a GM, you’re investing money into a sure product. You have to overpay a bit but in exhange you’re not losing assets.

i wouldnt put too much emphasis on the missed trade opportunity for chicago as they wanted him. TThey offered 4 million which was not bad of an offer at the time. If Donato finishes the year with 70+ pts, GMs are going to line up with their blank checks.

I dont get the shades people are throwing at him.

For a cotending team hes a no brainer. 6@ 5 seems reasonable, i dare to say even 7@6 for a 70 pts player at 16 mins of TOi, its exquisite

nope. hes a 15 goal a year guy. Hes running crazy hot right now and playing the 1PP because the hawks are so bad.

Chicago will only give him 3 years. Unless another bottom feeder needs to hit the floor he may get 5 or 6 million but hes not getting 5 or 6 years. Too risky

How has his all around play been? The limited times I have been able to see him this year, it wasn't his scoing that impressed me, just thought he was a good hockey player - but again a pretty small sample.

7 mil at 6 years *

Look at all the free agents available this summer dude. Look at their ages and how much they were making and their production so far.

UFA, Top Forwards 29 and Under, right now:

Mitch Marner, 91 pts, 11 mil cap hit, 6 years
Ehlers, Nikolaj, 69 pts, 6 mil cap hit, 7 years
Donato, Ryan, 59 pts, 2 mil @ 2
Bennett, Sam, 49 pts, 4.4 mil @ 4
Boeser, Brock. 46 pts, 6.5 mil @ 3

He's breaking the bank this summer dude

Donato is a soft player who is a decent bottom six offensive minded scorer. Any GM with half a brain should steer clear of giving Donato much term or money based on one good season during a contract year. Donato is not much of an overall player, and is ill-suited for the playoffs. He gets pushed around easily. Dude only has 2 points in 19 playoff games across 3 teams. Fortunately for Donato there are some really dumb GMs, so maybe he will find some fool who will give him a sweet contract based on one good year.

But the issue is Donato isn’t a 70 pts player. He’s having a fluke season

But even 70 pts players are not 70 pts players

Even if he produces 50 pts per season, he'll be well worth the investment. A 30-35 goal scorer at 16 mins a night, that is a mucho investment

Like, not really.
Well yeah, pretty much.

Just by function of ice time + opportunity, even on a bad team, some guy is going to put up decent production.

IIRC reading a study on what production to "expect" from players playing in a certain role, regardless of actual player talent. They concluded a pure replacement-level player playing 1st line ES minutes and 1PP minutes would still put up ~35-40 points.

UFA Year for a 3/4W that’s getting ice time on a super shallow team. I steer clear of this one. He screams bad team scorer. Hes doubling his career highs this year.

Ryan Donato being the Hawks points leader just shows us how bad Connor Bedard has been this year. I mean, he can't even outproduce Ryan freaakinngg Donato... a 4th liner journeyman until he was 27 years old. Profound sadness.

The centerpiece of the Wild - Boston deal for Charlie Coyle. Outscoring Charlie > 2-1 this year.
Hard to predict the future.
Wild traded him to SJ for a 3rd who ended up as Luca Munzenberger), who with a swap of 1sts with Edmonton, ended up as Jesper Wallstedt
