"Finally, the white smoke."

So the trade Marchy group gonna be disappointed.
I love Brad I wish we could finish his career with the Boston Bruins.

But if they can get something for him, and it would be a pretty penny, I would do it without batting an eyelash.

Don’t see why they can’t trade him with the intention of signing him over the summer
Hockey minds much more sophisticated than mine say this rarely happens. Look it up.

Im in the trade marchy if he wants to be traded camp. He has earned that.
I don't think Brad wants to be traded, regardless of the train wreck we see night in and night out from this team.

Actually, I think Brad would accept a trade if it helped the Boston Bruins. I believe that.

Show me a GM that differs from that.
Brian Burke, Bill Guerin, Lou Lamarello, off the top of my head.

Yeah, and he was basically just told “f*** you. You’re not getting any help.”

Well, come on.

Doe anyone believe that at this point, Joe Sacco is, or was intended to be, anything other than the place holder he is?

At least he burned the Montgomery playbook (whatever that was) and simplified matters. Due credit.

Nonetheless, he is clearly not the man for the job. Nor is Jay Leach, and I have nothing against Jay Leach.

I have no idea who the next coach behind the Bruins bench will be.

My hope, doubtless forlorn, is that Don Sweeney and Cam Neely will not make that decision.

Relative to what he has proved he can give you -- someone who can play up and down the lineup, has clicked in significant degree with David & Pavel, won't break the bank, and apparently wants to be here -- I don't see the sense in trading the Geek hoping to get a player of equal value.

I would sign him. It ain't broke. Don't fix it.

Brazeau is a different kettle of fish.

Apparently, he is on Sweeney's Ultimatum List of Six.

If Justin's agent does not communicate wants and stipulations forthwith, he is dead to the Professor.

To me, Brazeau brings tangible value the B's otherwise lack.

He's big. He has some touch. He can park his considerable fanny in front of the net and deposit the garbage.

Works for me.

I would think twice about letting these two go. Can you replace what they provide at a cheaper price? I doubt it.

Even so, if I am willing to part with Marchand in service of fetching a handsome return, if they can snare decent draft capital, I would do it.

Interesting he won’t verbally commit to any labels about what’s about to happen, but he says out in the open UFAs won’t be signed? Sounds like tipping your hand without trying to take ownership of selling?

Either way, I think it’s good he recognizes this team doesn’t have it this year. Worst case would be he’s delusional and tries to add rentals with guys on LTIR money.

Idk, I’m excited about trying to get a good draft pick. This team absolutely needs to hit on an elite top 6 forward. Center or wing. We just need offense.

I will give them this:

Sweeney & Neely appear to realize that "this is not their year."

They have decided to pack it in and live to fight another day.

Except, they are not the field generals to execute going forward.

Their time in Boston has served its purpose, whatever that was ($), and a clean sweep of coaching and management staff is clearly in order.

I hope Charlie Jacobs has a "Succession" plan.

Because he's going to need one.

if somebody offered a 2 for T Fred, he'd already be gone

Not necessarily.

Start unrealistically high and go from there.

Also, perhaps, unlike other seasons, Sweeney may run out the clock to get the best deal(s) possible before the clock strikes three on 7 March.

They are sellers now, and can thus, theoretically, afford to wait until the last minute to strike the most advantageous deal.

It's the buyers, under pressure from owners, media, and unreasonably demanding fan(atic)s that feel the heat.

Sellers, by and large, can afford patience and the long game. They can kick back cool and let the offers roll in, each more enticing than the last.

As many have observed, Sweeney has never really been in this position before.

Almost exclusively, he's been a buyer. Selling in shrewd fashion presents its own challenges,

Do you honestly think that Jacobs will allow him to sell? I think it’s more likely than not they send a 2nd or 3rd out for some marginal upgrades or stand pat. Personally I’d love it if they sold and fired Sweeney so someone else is drafting for this team.

They have no 2nd this year,so unless they want to destroy the future more it's sell time. They don't have much to sell though either.

I for one would like the kids to get a fair shot in the bigs. 20-25 games would be telling IMHO. I'm all for trading Korpisalo and bringing up DiPietro. Give the B's a bit more cap space even if they retain some salary

As many here and in the media have pointed out repeatedly, WHY is Don Sweeney leaving Merkulov, or Lysell,
or Farannaci

MSN) to cool

or DiPietro, or Bussi to cool their heels in PRO when, clearly, the varsity's season is all but over?

What do the Boston Bruins have to lose by bringing these players up for more than a single game of 6:47 of TOI?

Sweeney may believe, rightly, that the above simply need more seasoning at the AHL, which is, after all, a developmental league.

Are they protecting assets from committing rookie boo-boos that decrease their trade value?

Do they believe the aforementioned are so fragile that said boo-boos would destroy their self-confidence?

Or is this mystifying stance merely a matter of stubbornness (again, why?) on the part of the Causeway brain trust, aka Don Sweeney?

Apologies for the snark.

But too, a simple, honest question: What's going on, and why?

Musings and theories, informed or otherwise, welcome.

…Those efforts resulted in names like Lee Stempniak, Drew Stafford, Rick Nash, Charlie Coyle, Marcus Johansson, Ondrej Kase, Taylor Hall, Hampus Lindholm, Dmitry Orlov, Tyler Bertuzzi, and Patrick Maroon all donning black-and-gold sweaters.

Some did little to reverse Boston’s fortunes, like Stempniak in 2016. Others, like Johansson, played key roles in getting the Bruins to the Stanley Cup Final in 2019.

Several became lineup regulars like Coyle and Lindholm, while Orlov and Bertuzzi bolstered a record-setting roster in 2023.

But those efforts did not end with Chara or Bergeron hoisting hockey’s greatest prize beyond that one fateful night in Vancouver.

And as admirable as those attempts were to push Boston toward another Stanley Cup, the bill was inevitably set to come due — with years spent cashing out on first-round picks and whiffing on what few selections they had leaving the team’s prospect pool barren….

The Bruins, as currently constituted, have a solid foundation in place with a 60-goal winger in David Pastrnak, top-pairing defenseman in Charlie McAvoy, and a promising netminder in Jeremy Swayman all in their prime and signed to long-term deals.

But the rest of Boston’s depth chart is encumbered with so much bloat, underperforming assets, and a dearth of young talent, that whatever promise resonated with this team in September has regressed into a miserable product on the ice.

Changes need to be made, and draft capital must be recouped (and most importantly, properly utilized).
💯 Thank you. Excellent post.

You might be right about Monty, but I truly believe there are more than one guilty party to this mess, and it all started offseason festered its way into camp and then regular season. By the way I have no freakn idea what FODKH means.

I suspect a minute of concentrated thought will dispel your ignorance.

Start with "DKH."

The team he built has so little skill. Seems to be trying to plug a square peg into a round hole.
Sacco sucks, hope he's gone in the offseason.
I get they've missed Hampus pretty much all season but he's not going to solve the lack of scoring.

Still baffles me Lysell or Merk haven't been given an extended opportunity with how bad this team is to watch.

Has anyone enjoyed watching a Bruins game this season? I find them oh so boring yet still tune into 90% of them.

1] What you said.

2] I barely watch the games, and I work at the Pro Shop with a huge HD TV behind the registers.

I have viewed very little of the 2024-2025 Boston Bruins. About 20 minutes total each game, if that.

Why would I waste my time? I don't mean to be unkind, but they are a bad team and I can't muster the enthusiasm (or loyalty) to bother. They are dysfunctional, consistently inconsistent, terrible statistically in almost every category that matters, and boring to watch.

They are very difficult to like or even care about.

I'm a masochist.

But I'm not *that* much of a masochist.

As long as Donnie is gone before the draft... last thing the Bruins need is another Senyshyn or Lysell

I can almost 100% guarantee Sweeney and Neely will remain on the job before, at, and after the draft.

There has been enough drama and upheaval this season, from beginning to end.

The real question is what happens in the off season.

Will SweeNeely get the chance to retool their roster after selling off parts both inconsequential and significant?

Unfortunately for me, it would not surprise in the least if the answer is yes.

Whatever happens, it will be, as Neil Young has it, "In'eresting" to view the show.
