Management Don Sweeney extended 2 years

Monty decided he was done with the team and instead of making that choice over the summer, or sticking it out and doing right by the players and then departing after the season, he quiet quit.

I don’t make millions and I’d never quite quit on my students.

If that is the case (and I'm not saying it's not) then that is on him. He had a contract and a job to do.

My question is when did he decide to quiet quit on the team? Was it over the summer, or was it in camp when he saw all the awful new players Sweeney had brought in? Doesn't excuse the quiet quitting but it's not like Sweeney handed him a contender. I'd say when Monty laid eyes on Max Jones in practice, the words WTF went through his head multiple times.

Does it really matter if a coach leaves on organization and goes on to have success at another?

You can be a super-duper fantastic amazing hockey coach, and still wear out your welcome with a group of players. What odds if they go onto coach a completely different group of players and win? The time was right to move on from Cassidy. I'd argue Julien's firing was overdue and should of been canned after 2015-16.

Frankly, the way it ended here for Monty was a strange one and one that we will probably never get the entire truth or complete story of what went on behind the scenes.

Wasn't there a strange ending in Dallas too?
'

Yes but for the most part we know what happened there.
Maybe not?

''Dallas Stars GM Jim Nill gives his statement on relieving Jim Montgomery of his head coaching duties, due to an act of unprofessionalism, but can't divulge any information on the specific act.''

It's been made public since.

''Nill declined to discuss the act that led to Montgomery’s firing during a press conference on Tuesday afternoon saying he wouldn’t comment out of respect to those involved. He did specify the act wasn’t criminal and has no connection to players past or present that the organization is aware of.''
''General manager Jim Nill said during a press conference that the dismissal came after the team was made aware over the weekend of a “material act of unprofessionalism.”

Nill would not reveal what the act was, but said it occurred a few days before he received a phone call about it on Sunday. The act did not involve any current or former players, according to Nill
.''

Montgomery did something, an act. Nill didn't say what.

I wonder if Sweeney knew?

Everyone knew - he was a happy drunk at least

The majority of folks on here would prefer that they move on from Sweeney, but what's hilarious is that between Sweeney and Neely, Sweeney would get another job immediately if he got fired. Remember, even Peter Chiarelli got scooped up quickly after he got canned. GM's in the NHL are recycled like soda cans. I'd be absolutely stunned if any team gave Neely a job if by some miracle he got canned. He has proven to be too emotional and a mediocre (and that's being kind) talent evaluator. Outside of acting like a maniac when the team scores a goal, I'm really not sure what, if anything, he actually does.
His temper and intolerance were a big reason they traded Seguin so quickly and got very little in return imo

It's a version the "Ex syndrome". You see your ex with their new, hot love interest, and you start thinking "maybe I should have hung onto that one," ignoring all the legit reasons why you broke up with them in the first place.

I will tell you how I feel. I am disappointed. Giving him 2 years is a message vs. signing him for longer. Yes, my disappointment is giving him an extension, period. I have been vocal about him and Neely. Give them the boot, just not happening.

Do Sweeney and Neely have compromising pictures of the Jacobs or something? How have they been able to last this long given all their screw ups?

Makes sense. Having a lame duck gm when you’re trying to hire a (hopefully) entirely new coaching staff and lure free agents is a bad idea.
You can always fire him next offseason if need be.

0.0 he’s fired

Athletic polls over years had Sweeney top 5 multiple times by fellow executives but same yrs Bruins fans weighing in 24-29

If the Bruins collective fans ran the Bruins they would be worse then Buffalo last 14 years

But it’s all good fun reading the insane posts

And in the last 14 years they would have had at least 14 different coaches.

other NHL executives rating Sweeney that highly just makes me question their evaluation skills
