Management Don Sweeney extended 2 years

Carlo is the most overrated player in the history of the sport. The Leafs got bent over.

Fair trade my ***

At one point in Game 7 Carlo, a defense-only D-man was on the ice for 3 consecutive goals against in a span of about 6 mins.

Bent over more like complete sabotage. Maybe the most overrated Bruin of all-time.

I’ll never ever miss watching the play die on his stick entering the offensive zone.

The fact that he was that big and had that weak of a shot was baffling to me.

What about the last 9 years says he "deserves" anything? Great with trades. Terrible with drafting and FAs. You can understand why the team did it, like I get it, I hate it but I get why. But he honestly deserved to be let go at the end of the season. Now if you did that you could sell everyone on a new beginning etc...but that didn't happen at the press conference so now you're looking at a lame duck GM. Its basically a joke organization that is trying to give off the vibes that they're serious but they're going to go with a candidate thats not a serious candidate at this point because all the good ones are more or less off the board. Thus leaving you to pick from Strum (probably the best of the bunch) Leach (who I think was the end game the entire time), Sacco or Woodcroft who was terrible in Edmonton.
I agree with much of this, but let's see who the new coach is.

Theoretically anyway, it could still be Misha Donskov, or perhaps Mike Love (No, not that Mike Love),

It could well be Sturm, who would certainly be my preference over Woodcroft, Leach or Sacco.

We'll see. The selection will tell us a lot about this team going forward, Sweeney or no.

Funny enough he could hammer a one-timer but I think in his Bruins career he has maybe two one-timer goals.

Well they're held to a higher standard to be fair because they've been down at the bottom of the prospect rankings for years now. Also in the last 9 years can you name 5 free agents that worked out? 3? If other teams are mediocre yet you're holding yourself to a standard that compares to them it breeds mediocrity. Should have sacked Sweeney for someone like Mathieu Darche who comes from a different organization and has been critical to helping build a sustainable winner in Tampa. But he never played with Cam so... boom goes the dynamite.
Not sure why fans just can't understand the fact that its almost impossible to be on top of the league year after year and have big trade deadline days without depleting your prospect pool.

Picks don't win championships and neither do prospects, they are trade chips for any team that is always in a win now mode. Should we have more cups? yes, but that's on the players that chock and shit the bed when it matters.

To me having tons of picks high enough to draft impact players only means to me that you are not a good organization. I want to root for a Bruins team that will "go for it" every chance they get.

I want the best product possible at the NHL level, If you have some good prospect then great hopefully a few of them make it to the NHL.

DS did a masterful job at this last deadline, the first time he was pressured into making some difficult choices and he aced them.

The guy is good at his job, like him to hate him.

Are you kidding me he sold carlo for a possible 2026 1st round pick to go top 20 and a solid prospect fraser minton plus a 4th round pick that's milking the cow to the last drop. That's just one trade go to others ones and see how fleeced them all. I'm still in shock how he pulled all this off.
You’re forgetting his previous 10 yr term in which he failed miserably.

Whelp he is officially attached to this retool, rebuild whatever the hell the next fancy word for fixing the team is called. It’s up to him to right the ship or go down with the titanic.

Well tries 1-10 didn’t work too well so mark me down as highly skeptical he’ll figure out.

The core of that stacked roster was pre Donnie. He rode them as long as they could go, now all thats left is Pasta and it shows how horrible he did.
But to be honest, i wasn't expecting any less from this FO. What a bunch of idiots. I'm not suprised.
When I get signed out of HF I’m far too lazy to sign in so I check this board especially the cap one and the main board and just read all the comments. I had to sign back in after they extended this man. What you said here is 100% the truth. And I couldn’t agree with it more.

Chiarelli imploded and became conservative after the Cup win but everything prior was tiers above what Sweeney has been able to do while riding the success of the Chiarelli core.

Parts of this are true but can we call it the chiarelli core when significant pieces came before Chiarelli?

Everybody in one way or another is riding some success from the previous team, that’s how pro sports works that’s how organizations work that’s how successful states work

Sweeney got them back into the finals just a few years after taking over and shipping out some big pieces

I think we can’t honestly assess the last 10 years due to how much Covid threw things off in the middle, without that who knows what happens, then we could say at this point it’s time to move on from Sweeney, but I think 2 years is perfect because it’s that sweet spot of show us what you got it’s crunch time and also not too long if he doesn’t turn things around

I think they’ll be back in the playoffs next year. If they make it to the ECF he’ll get extended again. If they fizzle out then his last year will need to show significant progress or he’s gone and it’ll be a new day in bruins land

We should be retooling one more year in this deep draft. Maybe you get lucky and get McKenna but no, Sweeney will want to save his job and patch the team and try to make the playoffs.
What a terrible time to be a Bruins fan, we will be a middle ground team for a while.

He did have some decent teams. More worried about his drafting chops. He seems to find useful third/fourth liner hopefuls but he needs to be able to hit a top 6 guy or 2 as well as top 4 defenseman going forward. His draft history is bleh but he did not have as many higher draft picks like he does now. I have no problem giving him a chance it’s only two years and can always be fired at anytime too

You've been clear for years you have zero expectations for this group to be successful in the play-offs. Making the play-offs is your bar, just like Jacobs it would seem. You don't care when the Bruins are favorites and get bounced. Underdogs get bounced.. Play-offs are hard, I know.
I haven’t seen that from DB. But I could be wrong.

Just because some fans get more upset about not winning then others does not mean they “Don’t care”. Under any circumstances. At the end of the day our comments here have zero impact on the teams outcomes.

If it’s cathartic to complain then complain it’s your right. But to be dismissive of other fans who choose not to bang their heads against the wall seems to be taking it too far to me.

Question: doesn’t the short length of the extension limit the head coaching pool? If I’m a potential coach I want a gm with longer term for job protection.

How can Sweeney offer more than a two year contract when he doesn’t know if he’ll be around????

No head coach candidate is going to sign with a team whose GM is on the least year of their deal. At the very least, this says they're moving on from Sacco as head coach (but will still force the new head coach to take him and Leach as assistants.)

certainly in his last several years he was

he was pretty damn good between coming in after the draft and about 2020ish

asbolute fleece of a deal especially if that first his mid or higher next year and Minten becomes what we thought Frederic could be

unrelated: Sweeney's worst non move of the past 10 years? Not grabbing Pat Maroon after he stole our team's balls in 2019
