A deal around Domi and Poulin makes sense

Why would Pittsburg want Domi ? He wants to play at center, and at center only.... Crosby and Malkin are still there and Domi is not a third line player.

I would include the 16th OA pick as the + but not going deeper than that. Here is what scares me... Domi bust out playing with better talent and Gaudreau walks after 2 years.

This has the chance to back fire on the Habs when we look back in 3 years.
Thats not far off. Maybe add a conditional 2nd based on Gaudreau re-signing or the Habs making the playoffs.

I'd hate that trade. Why? Cause Nylander would be uninspired to play for the Habs against his friends in the same division. Domi would fit the Leafs way more than Nylander with the Habs. Nylander to the Habs is not happening.

Leafs are not going to rip around their RW by trading both Nylander and Kapanen.
You don’t think Nylander would try to prove a point that it was a mistake trading him?

The thing that worries me is that Domi removed he’s a Hab on his Twitter page.

I really, really hope they don’t trade him for something stupid. He’s a great player and will improve any team he’s on. Especially as a top-6 C.

The good thing is I’m sure GMs see the value in having a player like Domi on their team. Obviously with him needing to sign a contract (RFA), could take away some value. But how often do you find a young top-6 C available on the market? If wingers like Kapanen can fetch a mid-1st +, then I know Domi will fetch significantly more, and rightfully so.

That said, I’m convinced a trade with Domi and Poehling is imminent at this point (they both removed playing for the Habs on social media). Where are they going is the question... I think the other team is likely discussing an extension with Domi (similar to Vegas with Pacioretty), and once that’s done, the trade will obviously be announced.

Hopefully a game breaking forward is coming to the Habs or LHD.

don't base Domi's value on what Kapanen got - Pens clearly overpaid because they still have a couple of years of contention

that said, MB usually wins his trades so i'm not too worried

Danault won't get traded, he's too good defensively. Our top 3 C's are Suzuki/KK/Danault, trading Domi is a no brainer move.

Domi plus a 2nd round pick for Johnny Hockey I would do

Not for Phoeling ... I really like the kid and the Habs don't know what they have in that kid yet.

My guess is he will change his tune when he looks over and its Sid or Geno as his center.

Yeah and then Guentzel or Zucker are playing the third line, but then Domi wakes up in a cold sweat, it was all just a dream

Domi & Johnny have the same number of years of team control left (2 yrs)......so you're saying the difference between Domi & Johnny is only a 2nd Rd pick?

I prefer engaged, character/leader players, not soft and selfish players like Gaudreau, who I will give credit to gets a lot of points. Gaudreau will be eaten alive by Montreal fans and media.

Wait, Domi is throwing a fit and demanding a trade because he can't play center because he isn't as good at it as two 20 year olds. Is Gaudreau almost as valuable as that character/leadership?

Exactly.......Habs fan calling another teams player selfish in a Domi thread is a poor choose of words.

Well it would only make sense that the Habs would want to move Domi for a less selfish player- otherwise it would simply be a lateral move.

No need to make any generalizing comments.

No general comments were made, I said "a Habs fan"........not all Habs fans, there was no plural used. It was a poor choice of words by the Hab poster considering Domi's & Danaults recent comments/actions.

I thought that Domi for Kapanen was almost a fair trade. Leafs need to add a second...to go along with the other 3 million seconds we have.

Gaudreau has always struck me as a player who gets eaten alive the most by himself. I like his will to win but he will show it when things aren't going his way. Him and Domi actually share surprisingly similar player profiles.

I would give up Domi our 1st and Poehling for Johnny Hockey. I know my fellow Hab fans are split on it and the more vocal fans hate the idea of paying that much for two years but at some point we need a player that can hit 80-100 points we haven't had that in forever. Keeping Domi is redundant and does nothing for us even if we were to sign him to a one year deal we would be back in the same situation we are in now. Not sure what the Flames Fans think but I think both teams need a bit of a shake up at this point.

For as much as I like Gaudreau as a hockey talent, I would pass on that trade. Contenders should make a move for Gaudreau, not the Habs. That 2 year in term is only going to put fans in the seats and not really do much for us and then he probably walks.

Flames are trading him for a reason. I'm not going to drool over 2 years of Gaudreau when we already have too many small type players. I think Gaudreau struggles more with the Habs than he did this past season
