News Article: Dolan wants to keep Knicks and Rangers in his family

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Dolan is fine, the Dolan hysteria is way overblown. The only time I remember hearing about him is with the Gorton/JD firings and neither guy is anything special. Hating on Dolan is like hating on Nickleback, other people do it so it's cool.
He cares more about celebrities than fans being able to afford going to games.

It might be a situation like in Chicago where the son actually did what was needed to win. I don't know anything about his kids. I just know what Dolan did this past year that made me avoid going to any games, and I'm not sure when I'll return.

We will see, sounds believable. But Mark Cuban said the same thing for years and end up selling the Mavs. I also get the sense besides the prestige of owning the teams, Dolan doesn’t really enjoy owning the teams anymore like how the business of sports has changed recently.

Maybe Igor hysteria is overblown too.

nope, nope, NOPE.

If you want to say that 'ownership' hasn't been a big problem for the Rangers operations, I can reluctantly get on board. Talk to any Knicks fan since 1999 and you'll most likely find a decidedly different answer.

But under no circumstances, should anyone every write 'Dolan is fine'. Dolan is an egregious, thin-skinned, awful human being who existence is the worst blend of being a petulant child while soaking NY tax payers for millions of dollars.

This isn't a post that 'the rich are bad', this is a post and a permanent reminder that James Dolan is bad. We can both love the Rangers and not need to white knight for anyone undeserving.

I really don't care about Dolan's person faults. You don't like him on a personal level, I couldn't give two shits about him on a personal level. I also don't care about the Knicks.

Worrying about how Dolan is "soaking money from taxpayers" which amounts to pennies when considering the amount of wasted money the city spends on a daily basis (housing criminals in luxury hotels for years on end until recently) is hilarious. The MTA is a bottomless hole that sucks the marrow out of the city and no one says a thing. Dolan has some property tax breaks and everyone is up In arms while forgetting how much money MSG generates for NYC.

As an owner Dolan is fine. He spends the money and rarely meddles. As a person, he isn't the greatest, but he isn't the worst either.

I'm sure Dolan is a terrible person as honestly many of these owners are. Either they acquire their fortunes by being awful people or they're born into the money and learn from their awful parents. If anyone thinks Dolan sucks because of something unrelated to hockey, I totally get that and would believe pretty much anything you tell me.

With hockey, as long as he has someone he trusts at the helm, I think he's pretty good. Willing to spend what it takes to win and doesn't get involved in the day to day. And while I know some people cringed at the whole Tom Wilson response, I actually liked it. I bring that up because it sounds like Dolan is the one who wanted to put it out. In other sports you see owners speaking out all the time, so I was glad to see ours speaking out. The actual content was kind of hokey, but I liked the sentiment. What the NHL did (or didn't do) in response to the Wilson thing was criminal, and I was glad we as a franchise went on record condemning their inaction.

I had no issues with getting rid of Davidson and Gorton, either. It was done a bit dramatically, but I am on record as never really being a fan of JD as an executive and Gorton's tenure was uneven. Drury may not be the right solution, either, but I think a change was due.

Tl;dr is I think Dolan is a pretty good hockey owner.

I think Dolan is much more involved with the Knicks. I think he just signs the checks and stays out of Rangers stuff 85% of the time.
