Not an easy question to answer 
Step is most likely a lock, unless he prices himself completely out (7+ mill a year or something). We have a center problem, and Step is our best. I think it will take a lot for him not to get signed.
Zucc i'd say is probable, depending a bit on how he does this season (the first half of it anyway). I do believe that he figures into the long term plans of the team, but with cap issues, things get complicated. If i were a betting man, i'd say he gets an extension over the new year, but we'll see.
Staal is probably the biggest question mark of the three. He is going to command a hefty paycheck, and we have one of the better defensive groups in the league (with several up and comers in Allen, Mcilrath, Skjei, etc).

Staal at nearer to the trade deadline would be my best guess to sign an extension. If not he's probably moved depending on the options/return at the time. Not too different than Callahan or Girardi last year, if the Rangers and he can find the compromise, he'll probably get signed if he wants to stay. If not, he'll likely play out the contract and walk, or he'll be traded nearer to the deadline if they can find their idea of acceptable return.
Stepan with two RFA years after this year, this one is a sticky situation.
As far as arbitration, if he takes the Rangers to arbitration the Rangers can elect a one year deal leaving him a RFA after. Not sure he is going to like that prospect.
But if he doesn't take them, and the Rangers take him he can opt for a two year award that would leave him a UFA after. Doubt the Rangers like that idea.
If neither party takes the other to arbitration, he is open to elicit offer sheets if he wants, also he could hold out should they not come to terms.
Usually none of that happens and the team and player work out a longer term deal buying up UFA years but I can not imagine anyway this contract comes cheap given the alternatives and how the leverage is likely to work out. (This one I'd like to see the Rangers get done prior to any of that even becoming an option.)

Ends up with a one year like Zucc, or something longer but I can not imagine a 5 year like Brassard unless he is willing to leave annual money on the table for more guaranteed money that comes with a longer term deal.

I think some things have to happen for Staal to be extended and I don't know if it happens, if ever, until at least they have a good handle on what the cap will be. Further, it doesn't happen unless they're confident a kid can come in for Klein and be a cheaper option on the third pairing to save $2MM or so, and even then, that may be only save Stepan or Zucc. Finally, it doesn't happen unless Staal stays healthy and effective.
If there's no extension for Marc by the deadline he'll get traded. Would be a huge pickup for a contender. Could get a good haul. Or if they sign him, you get a steady defender on you're second pairing for years to come. A lot of teams don't have the luxury of having Marc Staal be their second pairing defenseman. I'm fine either way.

Zucc absolutely will; there's no other reason why he would have taken a discounted, 1 year contract.
Unless an extension would somehow prevent another holdout, there's no real reason to extend Stepan since he'll be an RFA.
I think it could go either way with Staal. Would love to have him extended below market rate if possible (This being the market that saw Brooks Orpik get$5.5 mil AAV)

They won't extend him midseason. He only wants to play here, at least I can't imagine that sentiment has changed after the playoff run. I suspect he'll let them sort it all out then see what's left over if he wants to keep playing.

Sather is a loyal guy, and smart enough to know a Marc Staal is damn hard to replace.

We have a lot of money tied into D for the foreseeable future. I can't see us offering Staal the money he deserves. The most logical option might be trading him.
McD: Bargain @ 4.7m for 5 more years (this may be the only reason we can resign Staal)
Girardi: Avg @ 5.5m for 6 more.
Boyle: Wildcard @ 4.5m for 2 more
Klein: Good or bad at 2.9-- bad for a #5, good for his talent imo.
Staal: Good @3.975 for 1 more.
Moore will also be fairly cheap, but I don't see us throwing Staal the $6m+ he deserves(and that other teams will top) to play #3/4 minutes.

He already took a bum deal for the team's benefit, and I could see him doing it again and Sather taking it into account. Step needs to be extended as well, but I could see him playing with free agency as a stanley cup experienced #1b/2a center.

he takes a "discounted" 1 year contract because if he hadn't, he would have gone to arbitration, which nobody has done in like three years, and potentially gotten the same, less, or slightly more while being dragged through the mud. He has a bit less rights because he wasn't UFA status.
