Curses don't exist and in this case it would be the "Oilers Curse", since they rep only Edmonton and not the ROC (Rest of Canada).

Let us put the rest this milquetoast quackery that the last Canadian team reps the whole country, let Edmontonians have their day in the sun and let the rest of us hurl tomatoes at them from afar.

It’s Oilers or bust in that respect. Just imho. So at least for me, it comes down to if they beat Florida. If they do, I think it’s extremely likely it ends. If not, then I’m guessing probably not.

>Oilers about to win cup
>Alberta announces they are separating from Canada and becoming their own country
>Oilers win the cup under the Republic of Alberta
>Canada still has no cup

Absolutely the Gary effect. Arenas will be sold out in Canada no matter how bad the reams are (see Leafs). A Canadian team winning doesn't help Gary grow the league.
Like he has done such a good job the last 5 years of "growing the league" with the TV ratings down for the playoffs. There is less people watching because of their fragmented NHL broadcasting that requires subscription to 50 different streaming services just to watch the complete season of your team. Gary isn't growing the league, he only cares about the money and pleasing the greedy owners.

Why would Canada be cursed? What did Canada do to deserve a curse? This seems like a term with no substance.
In 1993, LA won the 1st game in Montreal , were up in the 2nd game , then LA took a penalty , and miraculously Montreal called Marty McSorley for an illegal stick , it had too much curve , Montreal was suspected of "stealing" the stick during a practice so they knew. Montreal won that game and the series (4-1) after that. Some accused them of "cheating", and since then Canada hasn't won the Cup. The "Curse" is just a way of Trolling Canada.
