I could see him surpassing Forsberg, simply due to Forsberg's longevity / health issues. But no, not Sakic. No chance.

Forsberg, yes.

For passing Sakic, he needs another cup and lot more individual awards but it's possible.

For me it's more likely that Makar is #1 Avs player when they retire

That this is even a conversation boggles the mind of this Nordiques/Avs fan (since 94).

But if he puts the finishing touches on at least one Hart season…and with a good shot at another Cup at age 28 - there would definitely be an argument. Definitely pace-wise.

In some ways he’s the modern hybrid of Forsberg’s relentless ability to physically impose his will on a game and Sakic’s sublime ability to make being an offensive weapon look so effortless. He’s not close to the two-way player either of them were but the modern game has different demands on its superstars. Theres definitely a world where he maybe doesn’t quite hit Forsberg’s unbelievable ability to dominate without taking a shot or Sakic’s ridiculous longevity. But he might strike the balance enough to end up at their level historically. Perhaps…perhaps…even more.

It is hard to believe but if he has a run like the past couple of years for a few more.. it gets interesting.

Especially against Forsberg who really lacks in overall career due to injury.

these are the top p/gp seasons in avs history (min 30 gp). adjust for league scoring levels etc but mackinnon's peak already compares very well to sakic and forsberg.
