Does Mitch seem different since coming back from the 4 Nations?

I quoted your post and when you asked what part of your post I was quoting, I told you all of it. Then you lashed out and projected your behavior on to me.
The media cornered him.

They asked about how Leafs want to get a deal done.

They asked about if Marner is willing to negotiate a contract in season.

They asked him why he didn't waive.

Marner and his agent are up to their old dirty negotiation tactics, just like last time...and the media called him out on it.

Marner and his agent are just greedy, selfish and classless. Hes a giant clown and constant distraction to this team.

You posted the video and I commented that Marner said he wasn't going to discuss the contract to the media. I hold the same opinion.

It's crazy that anyone thinks removing one of the highest producing PP players in the league and the highest producing PP player on the team will somehow improve our PP. Face it, he's not overpaid for what he brings. And pacing 100-110 points for half a decade is a lot more valuable than pacing 115 for half a season.

There's more than enough cap space to have good depth. In fact, our most expensive depth pieces are some of our worst.

Matthews and Marner work quite well together.

Because it's more beneficial to the team to have your best playmaker setting up your best shooters, and playing big minutes.

How has any of this worked out so far for the Leafs in the playoffs? Not too well.

Not about the leafs with him…….only marner

Yes 100% - I've been seeing his other posts on the board and it's always 100000% Marner is always right, he's always being wronged by the Leafs, their FO, their fans.

Matthews went through something similar but on a way lower level because (A) he's the best player on the team and has been for a very long time (B) he signed pretty quickly even though it was on his own terms.

Willy went through that the first time around especially when he sucked during that season - but he's more than made up for it and his contract was actually a steal for the Leafs (the new contract is a bit more than I would've wanted but it's okay).

But poor Marner, he "must" get a contract better than Willy even though he's already bent the team over in the past despite claiming to only want to be a Leaf. And of course he MUST get Matthews money or more because his delusion dad thinks Mitch is just as important as Matthews, if not more.

Honestly, Marner is a great player but this core hasn't worked for a while when it matters most, in the playoffs.

Yes Marner has points in the playoffs but he disappears in the closeout games i.e. anything past game 4 - which is problem especially when the rest of the guys do as well.

This change should've been made a long time ago - but my prediction is after all is said and done, they will re-sign Marner for 13 x 8 (just below Matthews) unless he insists on 13.5+

Interesting that Marner indicated that he had a feeling something might happen (when asked about if he was suprised by being asked to waive). Obviously an indication that behind closed doors they aren't remotely close. So much so that Marner expected they may try to trade him.

My only question that I have for management why would they think he would ok a trade to Carolina .
Also they must have known in the summer what his asking price would be .
This should have been done in the summer.
Maybe he will have extra juice in the playoffs.
But he is gone next season

How awkward would it be if we had traded for and signed Rantanen in the rumored Easton Cowen and picks deal? Marner would have had to play out the rest of his contract knowing there is no cap room for him lol.

Not sure it would have made for a very good locker room culture heading into playoffs.

For me, it is, always has been, and always will be about the Leafs over Marner or anyone else. You're the one letting your dislike of Marner take priority over what's best for the team.
I love marner as a player Hes a dicc though if we’re calling a spade a spade but I’m a leaf fan first long before marner became a leaf and I’ll be one long after Hes gone you are a liar you advocate for marner to the detriment of the team that’s obvious dekes

I am a Leaf fan first. Keeping Marner is a benefit to the team, so I advocate for that. Enough with the personal attacks against anybody that disagrees with you.

Marner was asked how he's able to deal with the trade discussions. Marner said his teammates are a great support staff and his family.

... anyone think Matthews, Tavares, Reilly, Nylander are ecstatic that Marner blocked the Rantanen deal?

I'm sure they would be more than happy to be done with the constant Marner drama and would love to get a asset like Rantanen to continue their cup pursuit over getting nothing if Marner walks as a UFA.

100% they would be happier then the uncertainty and drama. He has been a source of drama and contention the whole time.

There is no doubt the depth players are privately saying screw you. Leave some money so we can have quality depth players you greedy shit. The depth on this team don't give a shit and play like shit because they know it's all about the stars every last dime. There isn't good incentive or motivation. Support players are just like, carry the team you greedy pucks.

Not sure I agree there they understand it is a business and how everyone goes about it is different

I am saying I don't think there is the same level of buy in. They let Gudas yell in your tenders face with zero response. Zero. They don't care about each other like most winning teams and that starts somewhere don't you think?

I am in favour of keeping Marner, even if that means paying him a fair contract. That does not screw the team. That helps the team.

The contract you think is fair isn’t though so what do you call that ? Rantanen went for 12 your suggesting more than matthews for marner aren’t you? You want him to get a 2 to 3 million dollar raise that he hasn’t earned despite your math

What is fair contract?
Somewhere between 14% and 15% would probably be the sweet spot that both sides could be comfortable with. Puts him below Matthews and above Nylander. In the upper end of contracts, but a step below the very top.

I call that you being misinformed on contract valuation in the NHL, and the quality of Marner. I expect Marner will get less than Matthews by percentage.

So 13.4m - 14.4m approximately

So on the high end he eclipses Drai. On the low end everyone else except AM. Dont you think that's a bit much for a player that has never taken his team into a 3rd round or scored 40 goals? Or gone 100pts?

Like on a performance review obviously weighted a bit to the playoffs. He doesnt even hit peers benchmarks. He would be below in essentially most all category's
