Does Mitch seem different since coming back from the 4 Nations?

Marner is a player you sign if you want playoff appearances, but not if you want to win a cup.

It was shown a couple years ago that no team with a player with 10 million has ever won the cup.

Does @francis246 know of a team whose allocated 14-15% cap hits to two players that have won stanley cups?

Let's hear it. If we sign Marner and Matthews to 4 year contracts around 14-15% we are statistically unlikely to ever win a cup. This isn't even bringing the fact that Marner is maybe the worst "star player" in physical games. So bad, that his biggest supporters, coach Cooper, demoted him to 3rd line and admitted that he is underskilled compares to his peers. Additionally Team Canada A. Coach Rick Tochett admitted that the reason he was demoted was the team wanted less perimeter play lol.

Demoted him and put him right back on the top line with McDavid in the gold medal (the most important game of the entire tournament) leading to two big goals the game winning goal.

The fact of the matter is, you can’t tell the future, we have no idea what will happen. The only thing I know, is I’ve never seen a poster so desperate going into 4 or 5 threads trying to rise up an army against one player. Let the cards play out as they may. If he signs, he signs, if he doesn’t he doesn’t.

Also not Matthews or Marner’s fault other players wanted to settle for 8 year contracts. I doubt McDavid signs 8 years again in Edmonton, especially if they don’t get a cup win.

It wasn’t a demotion, it was the coach looking for chemistry. McDavid is pure speed, direct, Marner likes to slow it down, it was reasonable to wonder if it was a fit. He mixed it up, and the second line was clicking, so where does Marner go??? So now, the sad gloom patrol warps a coach putting Marner on his top line to start a tourney as a negative. And, if you heard the coach, he said he put Marner back with McDavid because he wanted to get HIM going, “Marner had legs”. When are people going to stop debating with guys who will twist every success as a failure, no matter. At some point, it’s like talking to flat earthers. So f***ing boring.

He was played with McD " was a hunch" according to Cooper. Mcdavid wasn't out there on a hunch..Marner was lol. Which didnt need to he discussed by Cooper if the media didnt want to know why it was Marner was out there.

Marner isn't in the Mackinnon, Crosby and Mcdavid stratosphere but wants to make more money then them relative to cap over his career. If mcdavid and Crosby took a shift together in OT nobody would've batted an eye. They did when it was Marner. Partly because Marner had a up and down tourny, where he played second least mins amongst forwards in game 3.

Even Crosby and Malkin couldn't win a cup when they were making 14%. They didn't win again until their cap % came way down. Marner and Matthews won't let that happen because they want 4 year contracts. Marner isn't Malkin and Matthews isnt Crosby (albeit closer to Crosby than small winger Marner is to Malkin)... so signing Making Marner one of the highest paid players relative to the cap ever not only makes very little sense because of his skill set but also makes little sense if Leafs want to win a cup. If we were the Winnipeg jets or one of the Alberta teams, maybe it makes more sense. We arent... cut him loose.
 
No Hes the same player Hes always been smarter then most and defensively sound as a top playmaker in the league

In this scenario is the requirement for 13 million half an elite season like it was for Nylander?

You should take a pay cut at work so the company can spend more on others so that they can succeed.

I do agree with your point of view albeit I think you sometimes use extreme exaggerations and intentional misinformation to get your point across. And that’s what pisses me off, oddly I don’t find you a bad poster but I don’t understand why you use the tactics you do to make your position.

My only advice when it comes to Marner is, I don’t think the leafs should do anything until we see what happens in the playoffs. If we shit the bed, they should absolutely move off him. Change the mix. I don’t know Marner personally but I like to see the good in people. Maybe he’s learned from last negotiation and he takes less than we are anticipating. I’ll reserve judgement for then. But I won’t be happy if it’s over 12.5… I do think the 15% is a little too much

Lol good comeback? Do you have any research to support your opinion...at all..even a little?

Leafs have underachieving for years in the playoffs. Yes, most businesses who aren't successful would change up personnel. Surprised I need to say that...but apparently I do.

Bruins beat leafs last year in 7 games. Bruins were up in tbe series 3-1. Those Bruins lost to Panthers in rnd in 6 games (Panthers were up 3-1).

Leafs lost to Columbus in 5 game series in 2020. Columbus lost to Tampa in 5 games in round 2.

At the front of this has been the leaf core 4...who just can't get it done. Statistically they are abysmal, not to mention they don't appear to match playoff intensity that others do.

Even Crosby, Malkin were unsuccessful when their cap hits were at the top of the league...same with Kane and Toews.

Leafs aren't gonna succeed with Matthews and Marner taking short 4 year contracts that ensure they are always at the top of the league cap % .

Not to mention, according to studies, players primes are in their mid 20s and they start to regress around 30. So yea... the odds are incredibly stacked against the leafs if they sign Marner. Those are just the facts..whether you like it or not.

That doesn't sound like something you'd put out in the media if a player didn't want to be soemwhere.

It’s obvious the media gets to him and he gets taken out of context and his play undermined.

Being up there with the best players in the world and not only looking like he belonged but being able to make some clutch plays when mattered most.

Marner is the best player on the leafs and where he goes the team goes.

Seems to have taken on Dreger’s role during Marner’s previous negotiations even Bourne & McKee give him a hard time about his bias & credibility. It’s an open secret the he knows his family personally.

Marner is not our best player the problem is the fact that’s Hes either our second or third based on preference I guess I believe he produced in the 4 nations tournament specifically in the gold medal game cause he was a supporting role player he wasn’t relied on pressure has not looked good on marner from my point of view anyway but I could be completely wrong the playoffs will let me know for sure

I’ve been saying since 2021 that the Leafs playoff success doesn’t need to be pegged to Marner’s own personal growth arc and if you have big boys playing seriously ahead of him he can contribute as a Kessel on a Pittsburgh. But the problem is we don’t have a more serious layer of guys ahead of him.

How can this management not understand that before TDL you ask Marner to shit or get off the pot. What is the number. If the number gets a no, let the boy go! If he doesn't want to waive just share what negotiations with him are like with peers. Do Ferris leaks, toss the season in the bin and figure it out.
