Honestly, probably not.

Gretzky twice hit a VsX of 169.4. He has 3 more seasons over 150.

Huberdeau and Gaudrau tied for second with 115 points last year. Assuming a similar result, the resultant VsX works out to.

195 points for Gretzky's 1984 and 1987 seasons.

182 points for Gretzky's 1983 season.

177 points for Gretzky's 1985 season.

175 points for Gretzky's 1986 season.

McDavid's 2021 season converts to a VsX of 175 points.

170 would get close. But would ultimately result in the 11th highest VsX score ever. The media would 100% anoint it the greatest season ever though.

The big kicker too is Draisailt. In Gretzky's best seasons he was putting up 50% more points than any teammate. If McDavid hits 170 then Draisailt is a lock for 130+ and more realistically 140. It would take a lot of shine off McDavid's season for an all time standpoint.
No, in Gretzky’s best seasons he was putting up over 100% more than any teammate…routinely…I think biggest spread was 119%. There have been some big spreads from others…like Sid and Ovi’s rookie years, but the kicker with Gretzky is that his teammate was one of the leagues leading scorers…sometimes #2

probably not, it would be seen as a huge dissapointment if Oilers missed the playoffs. Unless he scores something crazy like 150 points, I just don't see it.

If scoring is like it was last year, someone else is in the 110-120 point range and makes the playoffs, and gets the Hart

Depends on what other players do and if Drai is right there with him or not.

McDavid should win the Hart trophy even if the Oilers finish in last place simply b/c him and Draisaitl have somehow won games on a team managed by Ken Holland.

Leon is way better offensively then any of Wayne's teammates

Would need to be 180+ to match Gretzky’s 205 in 74 games
I dunno but if he has 164 (2.00 ppg) i think that is enough to get legendary goat season status. Genuine question when was the last time someone had a 2+ ppg season?

Very true having mcdavid and drai being a surprise with how good he got and still failing to put a cup contender together is a huge fail not to mention handicapping the team with bad contracts and Nurse isn't even that bad (1-2 mill overpaid) they need to replace yamms with a serious upgrade before their window closes

It's impossible to say right now.

Maybe he goes cold and "only" puts up thereabout 100-110 points.

If he stays on the pace he's on, that changes my answer.

My initial impression is yes. The Hart basically just goes to the guy who wins the scoring Title. So if McDavey wins that by a sizeable margin, i think that combined with how much the media loves to talk about his greatness probably wins him the MVP award. Even if it doesn't make much sense to me, and i don't personally believe it'd be justified to have the "most valuable player" in the league on a non-playoff team. The "value" they bring, should be predominantly leading (or dragging kicking and screaming) their team to the Playoffs. That's the point. That's why they play the games.

All those years and posts and your analysis is still so crude.

95/96 was the last 2 ppg season…Lemieux. It’s only been done 16 times in history, 10 times by Gretzky and 6 times by Lemieux.

Dang nearly 30 years ago and it was done by the 2nd greatest ever (some may argue but that isn't the point) and only two players have ever done it and the other being considered the best. If mcdavid does that... Wow
