Really depends on how he ages when he hits his 30s and slows down a bit, and if he can avoid injuries. Crosby didn't depend on his speed as much so while his production has dipped, he's still an elite player even at 35. He's at 17 consecutive point per game seasons and counting, and still going to fall short of 2000 because of the injuries during his prime.

So basically McDavid can do it if he avoids any major injuries, stays at 110+ points during the rest of his 20s, and continues to be a ppg+ player throughout his 30s.

For an 82-game season he's averaging 118pts per season for his career

He needs 1285 pts. To reach 2000 by age 35 he needs to average ~130 pts per season, I don't see that happening.

To reach 2000 by age 39 he needs to average 92 pts per season. That's more feasible, but still I think a tall order.

It's possible, but it will come down to injuries and how long he's willing to play.

Assuming he retires at 40 (2037), discounting this season he needs an average of 87 points in a season for remainder of the career.

It's certainly possible but too early to draw big conclusions.

Way too early to tell...will depend on a several things: 1) his health, 2) overall scoring in the game....if we go through a big period of offense, it obviously helps....not sure where we are headed, but last season was going in that direction, 3) how long he wants to keep playing, 4) how we he maintains his ability to score later in his career.

It's certainly possible, Crosby will be 500pts away at the age of 35 and scoring was down quite a bit for most of his career after the up tick in the first few years. He also missed a ton of games during his prime due to injury. So if you use him as a bit of a guide, McDavid is scoring around the same rate, if not better at the same age....hasn't had the injury trouble yet and scoring is up....he should be much higher than 1500 points at 35.....so probably within striking distance.....but yeah.....that's years away, so too early.

By the end of his career, do you think McDavid becomes the second player in NHL history to reach 2000 points? He hasn't missed too many games due to injury yet, but missed about a full seasons worth of games between the injury in his rookie year and the two COVID seasons. It took him just over 7 years to reach 700 points.
Barring a serious injury he should. But will need a few of the type of seasons he just had at 120 points. Need 20 seasons at a 100 point average. Which he pretty much has gotten with the injury and Covid. Will need to do the heavy lifting before he’s like 33. Affords him a buffer in his mid to late 30’s.

No. He relies too much on his athleticism and speed for his production. That will wane soon. He will still be a good player, but probably not among the handful of best in the world in his later years.
It’s not just his speed. It’s his turns and edgework in the zone. Guy will adjust and make himself remain the best if not the best.

He has the will to be better year over year.

He would need his next 7 years to be as productive as his last 7, then he would need to put up 100 point per season for 6 more years to close out his career. Not happening.

He is far more dangerous right now than he was in his first few years. And with a better supporting cast. He also missed the equivalent of a full season during that period. He averaged over 110 points per season over the last 4 years playing only 70 games per year on average. If he does not have a significant injury 800+ points over the next 7 years is quite reasonable. That puts him at 1500 at age 32. Assuming he played his age 38 year he'd have 7 more years to get 500 points. That's 72 points per year.

If he stays healthy it is certainly withing reason that he gets to 2000. But health is impossible to predict.
