That was said before Laine got injured.
good to know, But if the GM based his whole season on a single player that would speak volumes to him being a bad GM.

Weren't Hab's fans thinking the previous GM was an idiot because his strategy every season was " Jesus Price, bring us to salvation"?

I guess Habs fans wanted to skip the growing pains part of the rebuild.

Nine of ten times, it doesn’t work that way, and it’s unrealistic to expect it to work that way. It’s not just - fill roster with young, high end draft picks/prospects. After that, there’s the development period. And it’s usually a painful few years before the names actually have the sort of impact fans assign to them on draft day.

I like the look of their youth, and feel they have a bright future. I’m just shocked there’s people who thought it would come as early as this year.

Putting the teams inconsistencies on the coach in this situation is ridiculously deluded thinking.

Being in the mix until April.

The question though is whether that was just said publicly to get fans excited for the year or if they actually expected it internally. I don’t see how they would have expected significant improvement from the roster this year short of Hutson having a Makar/Hughes/Fox like rookie year and Slafkovsky taking another huge leap to true top liner. They lack both top end talent and depth.
