Interesting case, Kaberle. He was really talented for a period of time, but his unwillingness to leave when the return for him was the highest really soured some fans.

For children. Not for me, and most reasonable adults. But he still shouldn't be honoured. The bar has to be a little higher, IMO.

Does Kaberle get his number honored with leafs?

Only if the objective is to make the honor meaningless. I always liked Kaberle... but there's just not enough personal achievement or long term team success during his time here to justify it.

I think so. Second all time for defenceman scoring is hard too ignore for a team that's been around as long as the Leafs

I'd say no. He was always a good solid defenceman, but he was never great imo. Not deserving of being honoured.

If you take out all the politics and media and base it on play alone then he 100% warrants. 2000s Kaberle was an elite player and was an integral part of this organization. However, he fizzled out because his style of play's effectiveness declined quickly after he passed his physical peak.

They should hang a banner that says "SHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!" in his honor lol. In all serious I don't think they will, especially with TL's new emphasis on the current team and not history.

Scored a lot of points, but didn't really make a lasting impact on the fanbase or lead us to any sort of success, and it's debatable whether or not he was even the best defenceman on the team most of the time. Second all-time in points by a defenceman is his greatest accomplishment as a Leaf and I don't think that's really honour-worthy compared to the names that are already up there and the impacts they had on Leafs Nation.

I definitely don't think he deserves to have his number honoured... it's kind of pathetic that it's even a suggestion.

He definitely scored the points, that's for sure. But did he leave an indelible impact on the team like a Clark, Salming or a Sundin? The answer is no.

As one poster stated, it's quite telling how high the standards are when 15/16 players in the rafters are in the Hall. THAT is one high bar, and Kaberle doesn't even sniff it.

Just because a player puts up tons of points doesn't mean he's a lock for enshrinement. Guys like Housely and Turgeon were certainly great point producers... but not HHOF-worthy by any stretch. Piles of points means very little if you don't have the hardware to back up your resume. Over 2200 points between Housely/Turgeon/... 0 Cups, 0 MVPs, 0 Norris, 0 Art Ross. And the cup that Kaberle won with Boston... well, lets just say he was the textbook definition of being a "passenger" on a great team. Sorry Kabby, you were a great ambassador for the Leafs, but your number is not going up to the rafters.

I think he deserves at least a 'Thank You' ceremony on a Saturday night. I don't think he gets a banner and jersey number honoring.

Kaberle was a good player, but not great. He might be worthy of some sort of bobble head give away at some point, but not much more than that.

Too bad, he had crazy raw talent, but he just didn't have the right personality to access and fully utilize all of it.

Kaberle was an absolute treat to watch in his prime. He was never the fastest skater on the ice but he managed to snake through the neutral zone so effortlessly, all while playing above defense. At his absolute peak (which, unfortunately, only lasted two seasons before he got cheapshotted by Cam Janssen), he was a Top 10 defenseman in the game. He gets extra points for being drafted, developed, and playing nearly his whole career with the Leafs. But I still don't think he should get honoured.

He was never the face of the Leafs. He's not going to be a Hall of Famer. He was just a very good defenseman, for a long time, for the same team. Maybe if he played for a team like Carolina or Columbus or Florida, I could see it, but the Leafs standards are (rightly) higher than a run-of-the-mill expansion team.

I thought that this thread was a joke when I read the title until I started reading the posts and realized that there was actually some support for this ridiculous proposal to honour the jersey number of Tomas Kaberle.

Anybody who thinks that Kaberle should have his number honoured by the Leafs is nuts. What did he accomplish with the Leafs? Nothing.

No Stanley Cups, no major awards not even a nomination. He wasn't even captain.

If the Leafs honoured Kaberle it would be an embarrassment.

Honestly folks, some of the stuff you guys put on this board is beyond stupid, and the overrating of Leaf players never fails to amaze me.

Wake up.
