They don’t need to do anything. Their tank this year has set them up. They need a 1C, but Pasta etc are young enough that the drafted player doesn’t have to be a 1C at this moment,

If they get Frondell or Hagens, they are basically NHL ready and can come in as 3Cs while Lindhom serves as de facto for a couple years as they develop. They’ll be a playoff team next year.

No offence but that’s under appreciating the difficulty of the operation. It’s a hard thing to pull off.

They have to take a swing that whichever of Misa, Hagens, Frondell or Desnoyers the lottery gods gift them with is that guy. In a couple years if its clear the answer is "no", then a different conversation can start.

Wishful thinking by Bruins fans they can just retool. They have no #1 center and no #2 center to be honest. A lot of holes on that team.

1Cs are the most valuable piece you can have with #1 RHD just behind. That said, Pasta is good enough that you can probably get away with 2 2Cs. Doubly so if you can get Marchand back. Lindholm would be great as a 3C and would work as a 2C in a pinch. Mitts isn’t a playoff-caliber 2C though. I think there’s a good chance Frondell, Desnoyers, Hagens, or Misa end up Bruins and can be one of the top 6 Cs. I’d be ready to move all their extras (late 1sts, early 2nds, prospects) for any other 2C that comes on the market.

Other than Dallas, Tampa, Vegas and Florida, Boston might be the top free agent destination. Taxes are high and it’s cold, but I expect they’ll be getting some top free agents. Probably is there aren’t many centers available, but they should be well positioned to draft one.

They could throw money at Tavares and Bennett to be a gapfill for 1C/2C for a couple of years. Would put them right back in there. I don't see either player leaving their team but never know with cap restraints

McAvoy is 27 yo, not over 30. You keep him. #1 RHD are one of the hardest pieces to find.

May be rare but definitely not necessary. More of a luxury.

As in as long as you have that number 1 defenseman regardless of handedness. Being a righty would just be a cherry on top.

No reason to trade him. You can do a retool if you have the foundational pieces and they have them up front, on defense, and in net.

But.... if he were available the Ducks would offer a very large package of futures.

A true 1C is the most difficult player to acquire, just ahead of 1RHsD. You usually have to get lucky in the lottery and draft them with a top 3 pick.

Realistically their roster is too good for that.

A healthy Lindholm (missed like 65 games), healthy McAvoy (missed like 30 games) and a rebound from Swayman to go with an elite Pasta should keep them comfortably out of the bottom 5 even if they did nothing in UFA.

You don’t bank on like a 10% chance in winning a lottery

Feel the B's can retool and be fairly fine for next season. No need to throw in the towel and go full rebuild yet.

Healthy McAvoy/Lindholm, as bad as the Bruins have been I'd bet they'd be in a wild card spot right now if these 2 weren't hurt.
No offseason drama (Swayman)
Geekie-Lindholm-Pasta seems to be finding some chemistry of late.

Let's not forget they'll be coming into next season with hopefully a new coaching staff also. Sacco shouldn't be anywhere near a head coach spot.

Have some $$ to spend also. But really would only be interested in taking a run at Marner or bringing back Marchand from that. Bennett also, but feel he's gonna get his pay day & not sure how that one will age.
