Vasilevsky was drafted in the 1st round when goalies generally weren't, crushed it as a pre-pro goalie, crushed it as a pre-NHL goalie, and won a Vezina and a Conn Smythe.

Vasilevsky is essentially the anti-"goalies are voodoo" goalie. That's a high bar to clear, and I don't think Askarov is particularly close to clearing it.

Maybe but projecting a goalie is so difficult in the NHL. Even if he's more talented mental toughness, consistency, and adaptability matter more. Likelihood of him ending up as good as Vasi is close to zero.
