Does anyone find it boring with the same result as last year?

McDavid a chance to win his first Cup and EDM with a chance at revenge. FLA with a chance to repeat. Both teams well-rounded and play fun hockey. Some bad blood carrying over from last year's SCF. Both teams clearly the best teams in their conference. That's boring? Helluva a lot better than watching DeBoring try to coach his way out of a paper bag vs an offensively challenged Canes team.

Agree 100% This is the first series since Chicago Boson (2013) I'm interested in, pre series. Bruins Canucks (2011) was huge, but that's because of the shenanigans leading up to game 7. Mcdavid/ Drai are going to be 100% focused, but I'm not sold on Skinner as a goalie. This final has a great story of a rematch, the first since my Red Wings lost in 2009. I'm going to attempt to watch all the games.

Is Ghost of Murph a reference to Larry Murphy?

But that still doesn't happen. Canadian markets, small American markets still can't attract top talent.

So cap or no cap, all the same really

Gaudreau and Monahan signed with Columbus

Kadri signed with Calgary

Giroux and Ullmark signed with Ottawa

E Kane signed with Edmonton

Skjei, Stamkos and Marchessault signed with Nashville

Mountour and Stephenson signed with Seattle

Seems like some Canadian and small American markets have been able to attract some of the top talent that hit UFA over the last few years. The problem is that the actual "top talent" doesn't tend to hit UFA, so these guys are mostly 2nd or 3rd tier guys.

And their drafts?

Drafting seems to be the biggest difference between the teams that spent a lot and won and the teams that spent a lot and didn't. But, spending a lot of money to add to the elite guys you drafted was one of the best ways to help ensure you could challenge for the Cup.

Why is that a bad thing?

It's open to all teams to use.
It’s only available for teams that have an LTIR player at TDL, to take advantage of 8 million more in space, it is not available to everyone at the TDL.

And to OP question, I’m looking forward to the rematch.

I thought there was supposed to by parity in the NHL. Yet we had the exact same final 4 matchups as last year. And now we have the same cup finals matchup as last year as well.

Are the Panthers and Oilers just THAT much better than everyone else? It just seems like you can skip the playoffs and wait for the finals. There aren't any upsets any more.

I don't know, it just seems boring to me. I would have liked to see some new teams do well. But it seems parity is gone.
You would have a point about parrity if it was same finals every single year. 2 years in a row when this hasnt happened in like 20 years makes your post seem silly. What do you want- random assorted number generator for who makes playoffs and wins rather than standings and actual series?

I dont want results to be random and like seeing well built teams make it few years in a row. Parity is nice in that their is ckose to equal opportuniy(not totally cuz some teams dont spend to cap) but we dont ha e ridiculousness like the dodgers and yankees vs budgets of every other team in mlb thanks to salary cap

Also we didnt even have same final 4 as last year

Sure seems like interest in the final is well below normal. I guess it’s because it’s so slow in the hockey world right now. Hardly anyone talking final and very little buzz. It’s a shame really.

Hockey (the on-ice kind) in summer is meh almost regardless of who's playing, but it certainly doesn't help that it's Edmonton and Florida again.

Not boring.

If Edmonton Oilers made it 5 years in a row and faced Florida Panthers 5 years in a row. Yes that is boring.

Golden State v Cleveland happened 4 years in a row.

People say boring but they were also breaking viewership records. So tough to say.

I don't see how this match up is regarded as boring.

McDavid's got a point to prove and is in Gretzky '84 mindset no doubt

Skinner is proving goalkeeping is more than one way to skin a cat

Bobrovsky is FL's Conn artist

Florida is the dirty, stinkin' rats from the Hockey Hades that has enemies all over who want to see them lose

SN's marketing bs can come to fruition as a Canadian-based team can win a Cup fir Canada! (Of which 80% of thr fan base couldn't care less because they ain't from Climax, Saskatchewan, SN!!!!)

(Gary, please pay my fee in season's tickets. Thank you)

Fans of Florida, would you take this deal: Barkov wins the Selke next season, Bennett wins Lady Byng, the rookie from the draft wins the Calder, Tkachuk wins art Ross and Hart, Bob wins Vezina, everyone resigns, Marner expresses interest signing in Sunrise(14M AAV), Other fans no longer dislike you, but you lose in the first round, so there's some new blood from the east in the finals. Give other teams from the East a chance.

If Bennett ever won a Lady Byng then I'd be sure to watch out for the earth obliterating asteroid that would be destined to follow.
