Does anyone find it boring with the same result as last year?

I think this is exciting. A LOT more exciting than some of the finals we've seen in recent years like Vegas and Tampa steamrolling underdogs.

Panthers and Oilers post-TDL are clearly the two best teams in the League. I'm sure the games are going to see a lot of twists and turns.

It's not like the Oilers and Kings "here we go again" in the first round. You don't see finals rematches a lot. It doesn't get more competitive than that.

No I just think a lot of people love whining about everything. They're never happy.

This Final will be awesome. Big rematch between the two best teams in the league currently. The best hockey player in the world going for the Cup after missing by an inch last year. Meanwhile, Florida is going for a second Cup in a row, shortly after their neighbors won two Cups too.

Incredible!

For sure. The games are lopsided from a goals perspective as well.

I would prefer back and forth scoring. That's what keeps my interest. When one team dominates, it doesn't make for great hockey.

To me, the best thing about the salary cap is it requires GMs to actually be good at the job of building a team in order to win and helps stop the rich owners from buying their way to success. Sports should be a meritocracy, and not based on how much money the owner is willing to spend.
I disagree.

Right now the GMs are more of accountants or capologists than actual hockey GMs. They have to do math, work with numbers rather than actually try to make hockey trades. I prefer the old days, you know like Patrick Roy trade, Forsberg for Lindros trade etc…. Those were the days when GMs actually had to be good to be able to make big trades like those.

Also now days signing UFAs is more about which team has the cap space than players having more choices to go where they really want. In the old days the GMs actually had to be good at their job to convince big name players to join their team

The conference finals ended up being a disappointment but the finals are actually pretty great. We don't often get to see SCF rematches anymore so there's built in storylines. If we were talking four years in a row with no changes then I'll agree that may get stale.

Was hoping to see some new blood in the final but the final last year was entertaining and I'm sure this one will be too. I do agree that both Conference Finals match up were pretty lackluster though.

A rematch between these two teams that really don't like each other to begin with...with a year of animosity to stew and then given a chance to bubble over like we haven't seen in a while in the pursuit of hockey glory?

How can one possible predetermine that as boring?

That said, after Tkachuks comments last year about doing it for Calgary, if the Oilers win I would love for someone to say something along the lines of "This is like putting a knife through the hearts of two fanbases.". Just to keep stirring the shit :D

Cause there's always next year.....

There is no way you can do a cartwheel
I am extremely nimble...

I will never doubt a mans ability to cartwheel ;)

Who could find this series boring? Does Edmonton finally get over the hump or do the big bad bullies from FLA keep trucking? No Hyman and the goaltending favor FLA, McDrai favor EDM. As a neutral, this looks to be an excellent finals.

Granted my team is in it, but it's not like everything is just the same from last year. Heck in a 7 game series the games are different and exciting in their own way.

Both teams have new additions, both teams have different guys banged up. Oilers have a coach who was in his first season as a head coach in the NHL and judging from these playoffs already, he has learned and grown as a coach.

And then having the best player in the world playing should make games appealing to fans

Another advantage of the repeat Finals is giving casual fans an opportunity to latch on to guys like Tkachuk or Draisaitl. Having Marchand and Perry there is a bonus as well. Storylines help sell the game and having the best player in a generation elevate his game to finally win a Cup is sort of the ultimate for the league. I can't imagine many people were saying gee whiz Ali is fighting Frazier again?
