Does anyone find it boring with the same result as last year?

I thought there was supposed to by parity in the NHL. Yet we had the exact same final 4 matchups as last year. And now we have the same cup finals matchup as last year as well.

Are the Panthers and Oilers just THAT much better than everyone else? It just seems like you can skip the playoffs and wait for the finals. There aren't any upsets any more.

I don't know, it just seems boring to me. I would have liked to see some new teams do well. But it seems parity is gone.
You were misinformed. Parity of opportunity, not parity of outcomes.

A decade or two of one-and-dones would be boring, the SC essentially reduced to a participation trophy where "Everyone get a turn".

It takes time to build a winning team with the right leadership, personnel, chemistry, style of play, etc etc. and practice practice practice. It's a ton of work and dedication, and they'll never institute rules that will remove any chance of a continuing reward.

This is a "boredom problem" that boils down to having the attention span of a chipmunk combined with a misunderstanding of what parity in this context is. Perhaps those 2 things are related, but whatever, it's not the League.

I’d be ok with the salary cap if they could figure out a way to make things equal for both tax states and no tax states.
I am a CPA, and would tell you that anyone who says they can easily equalize taxes is outright lying. The calculation websites assume all games are played for the home team, which we know is 100% not true.

Compare 2 guys like Marners and Matthews with almost identical contracts on the same team and they almost certainly has a completely different tax situation. I believe AM would pay almost no state tax because he is a resident of AZ and the signing bonus which is 90% of his contract is paid on 7/1. AFAIK Marner would be paying ONT provincial income tax on all of his signing bonus.

Player agent Allan Walsh said that effective tax strategies can significantly reduce tax burden. I just don't know how you can easily get this done to make the juice worth the squeeze. Hell, the time value of money by front loading a contract and signing bonuses can make a bigger impact on the contract value than the tax differential for the majority of jurisdictions.

I've often wondered this about European soccer TBH. It's ALWAYS Barca and Madrid, Juventis and Milan, Rangers and Celtic, Ajax and...Ajax, PSG and...PSG
Not remotely the same at all. It takes planning to build a team under the cap

Soccer is not that its just rich clubs sign expensive players

No, I get that. We were talking about two different things here.
I'm just saying that it's boring having the exact same teams win in European soccer. The Champions league is the only thing that I find interesting about it.

Rematches are fun but I honestly don't think Edmonton can hang, and the schedule is so drawn out again

Not really about the result for me but I thought it just kind of a flat postseason in general. Lots of very good hockey teams on paper worth many millions of dollars on the ice just rolling over in series, not nearly as much 'laying it on the line' as the NHL's false advertising would have you believe.

Hopefully these two teams can deliver a memorable SCF. Really the main thing I hope for as a hockey watcher. Hate the Oil till the day I die and rooting for Florida but I'll give the devil his due they're entertaining. More so than my two mundane midderton teams anyway.

Pre salary cap we had different teams winning as well. No team won more than 2 cups in a row since those Oilers and Islanders years. We’ve had couple of teams winning 2 in a row pre cap like the Pens and Wings just like we’ve had couple of teams winning 2 in a row post cap like Tampa and Pens again.

Right now the biggest issue with the salary cap is not only the state tax factor, but teams circumventing the cap to gain even more advantage in the playoffs. The only thing the salary cap has done is allow not so rich owners keep their teams and those are the bottom feeding teams who would be at the bottom of the standings even without a cap. Salary cap hasn’t created any parity at all

To me, the best thing about the salary cap is it requires GMs to actually be good at the job of building a team in order to win and helps stop the rich owners from buying their way to success. Sports should be a meritocracy, and not based on how much money the owner is willing to spend.

As a neutral fan what other matchups would be less boring?
FLA has the psychos effect where you tune in to watch their hits and rats like Tkachuk\Marchand etc.
Oilers have McDavid effect that bring the wow factor.

I guess COL vs TOR could be as exciting a final that neutral fans would want to watch... rest of the teams would be 'boring' to neutral fans.

Some people say they want parity, not dynasties, but if you look at the ratings historically, they're up when teams go to multiple SCFs and win multiple SCs.
