Not anything to persuade islanders to move Dobson.

So yes a big pile of shit

Sorry you had to find out this way
I don't think the Isles and Habs make good trade partners here, but Lou Lamoriello would be fired immediately if the owner found out has passed on trading Dobson for Matheson, Mailoux, Engstrom, Beck, Roy, and three 1st-round draft picks.

Moot points unfortunately, as it looks like Dobson might be shut down for the year. Pretty rough looking knee bend took him out of the game and never came back. No word from isles brass this AM.

thats... quite the statement, given that the "batch" is:

1 top 4 roster D,
3 (probably B level) forwards with top 9 potential
2 D prospects, one of which is likely top 4 material,
3 1st rounders in the next 2 drafts (not protected that i can see)
7 picks in the 2nd-4th round range.
Ill take quality over quantity
Matheson only has 1.5 years left......
yeah I dont think ur B level prospects move the needle much.
Reinbacher likely HAS to be part.
bunch of magic beans... whoopie doo

LMAO that offer isn't as nice as you seem to think it is. the 1sts are the only thing of interest and it's not enough. Matheson likely wouldn't even be of interest to NYI.
add Reinbacher and maybe u have a better chance of continuing a conversation.

Dobson is better than Matheson, but LMAO if you think that you'd need to add Mailoux, Engstrom, Beck, Roy, and three 1st-round draft picks and it would still not be enough to make it a fair trade (not that I was ever saying the two teams would make this deal). If such an offer were presented to the 15th-place in the Eastern Conference Islanders, I think they'd be fools to decline. They could use all the picks and prospects they can get, plus they can trade Matheson for more picks and/or prospects if they didn't want him.

This right here is what you’re failing to grasp. The Islanders don’t want/need another bottom pairing defenseman with term to hopefully move. The reason why I said Savard earlier is because he’s a UFA in the summer and they can move on to make their own decisions about the roster without having another spot clogged up. if it was Matheson as a UFA in July and not Savard, I’d take Matheson. It has nothing more to do with anything outside of the expiration of the contract.

Fans are going to react to this but right now today, Dobson is not that much better than Matheson. Dobson stands to improve and fans will count on it but none of us know the future. In terms of trade value, Dobson > Matheson (no doubt about it). In terms of actual play on the ice over the last two seasons, they are very close. Habs fans are guilty of devaluing Matheson and what he is providing. Now that we have him in the right spot with Hutson, the results are even better.

I just don't see this idea happening. Islanders are not going to trade their 25 year old RD for cheap and the Habs should just keep Matheson until he is 34/35. Matheson's skating is still elite level and there are zero signs of skating declines. I think he ages well and the 35+ years is what would scare me.

Dobson (Last two seasons):
* Age 25 today
* 94 pts with 16 goals over 125 games (0.75 pts/game)
* 31 PP points
* 2.48 hits/60
* 5.14 Blocks/60
* 2.50 Giveaways/60
* 1.18 Takeaways/60
* 55.7 CF% with 60.6% of Offensive zone starts

Matheson (Last two seasons):
* Age 30 today
* 84 pts with 14 goals over 126 games (0.67 pts/game)
* 36 PP points
* 1.71 hits/60
* 5.22 Blocks/60
* 2.45 Giveaways/60
* 1.58 Takeaways/60
* 46.7 CF% with 45.4% of Offensive zone starts

Lol I'd say that's rather short sighted to only value Dobson based on one season. I mean he put up ~70 pts last season, and 51 + 49 in the seasons prior and he only just turned 25 in January.

Additionally, it's pretty much the entire NYI who are having a down year - it's not a Dobson specific thing.
The 70 point season was his career year. Now he's back to his 46 point norm.

Way back, when dinosaurs were roaming the earth, we use to make trades just like these one except for one huge difference, it was in a brasserie (tavern) or with friends....after a few (or several) cold ones.

There is just as much will for the Isles to trade Dobson as the Habs have to trade Demigod...which is colder then the -18 outside my window.

Assuming these numbers are correct

That's a VERY significant CF% gap.

I can see you're trying to hide it by overplaying what isn't really that relevant a gap in zone starts (there are very few cases where zone start differences are actually meaningful, and those are the outliers)

Matheson shouldn't be of interest and either with Mailoux, Engstrom, Beck or Roy. the 3x 1sts are prob the only interesting part. I dont know why you think they would prefer quantity over quality.

there's no real reason to move Dobson, I just cant see them moving him for magic beans.

need better pieces

Reinbacher is comming next year ;-)

But tbh i don't see Dobson being a good fit in MTL

Me neither and I'm a big fan of Dobson. I rather use the assets to acquire someone like Nemec or just keep Matheson.

If the Islanders trade Dobson, they are likely after a 1/1 hockey trade. Habs are not in position to do that.
