The guy is 31 and has a history of disappearing for weeks on end.

Where was the Armia we are seeing now all these years?

There is a reason he came within a hairs breath last year of playing himself out of the league

And let’s not forget it’s a contract year, so it’s no coincidence he is actually putting the effort. He did the same thing last time he was heading to free agency and look how that panned out.

Sorry, but this nice little run he’s having will not change my opinion that we need to trade him now before he disappears again and his value drops
He's Snorlax. It is what it is. Once you accept he can wake up once in a while and become a top 6 player for a few days and go back to sleep you learn to accept him for what he is.

He's been doing better since he got sent to Laval last season and this season since Laine came back.

For someone who was waived not too long ago he’s earned his salary in my book and he will get us a decent haul. He’s bringing some value to the organization and that’s all that matters. Good for him.

Unlike our other vets (Anderson, Dvorak, Gallagher) They all deserved to be sent to Laval last year but Yo-Elle was the easy target.

Dobes inspired more confidence in me in this game than 95% of Primeau's NHL starts. He looks more calm and dailed in than Primeau and was positional very sound. Its early but he sounds promise and has the tools to be an regular NHL goalie.
Yeah I don't want to put Primeau down because it's not easy making the NHL, and no one ever wants to be exposed as not good enough on the biggest stage, but man there's such a clear difference in their confidence and strengths. Dobes really uses his body well and showed his glove hand tonight.

Also Jake Evans is a beauty. I'm sure he will be a sought after piece at the deadline. Wouldn't mind him staying but his value just keeps rising

Yes and was good. On the first goal, he dragged 3 panthers to him before passing it. He was also pretty good on the backcheck and in the D zone

No assists for him, unfortunately, but he had an impact on both of Dach's goals. Decent hustle from him here to disrupt the two Florida players, allowing Hutson to steal and pass the puck.

Also the situation you mentioned:

There was one rough moment where he gassed out during a very long shift and seemingly got away with a trip, they fought to survive that really bad stretch though (well, Xhekaj literally fought at the end of it).

The only addition by subtraction candidate on D was Barron. He was such a borderline NHLer now that his presence hurt us. We went far and beyond what we deserved by getting Carrier in return.

But it becomes trickier with the other Ds. They’re all NHL Ds whether you like them or not. Whether you want them in Montreal or not. And the club has transitioned away from the break down and rebuild phase to a win now phase. If they want to replace say Matheson, they need to find a better D to plug the hole. Our GM can’t just flush away Ds because they don’t like their face anymore.
I would try and trade Matheson + Mailloux + for a veteran first pair RD if possible

And suddenly all of the "fire MSL" crew go silent
My position on MSL is simple: I respect he's also growing as a coach but the leash is shorter with him than with some players.

The Habs were not ready to start the season and that's on the coach. A lot of players stagnated (or worse) at the same time, which must be very frustrating for MSL for sure, but soon enough when the Habs are chasing results you just can't shrug it off and not make efforts to get out of the mess.

It would rock if the Habs and MSL have a long and frutiful relationship. He's helped change our organisational vibes and keep morale up amidst all the losing.

Dobes was calm and very well positioned. No panicky movements or flops. He's a big kid – 6'4" – and looked big in nets. He overcompensated a bit – huddling with the puck after freezing it, squeezing the posts to make sure the angle was covered – like he was terrified of making a mistake. Which he didn't, so all's good.

Best first NHL game for a Habs player since Ryan Poehling. Let's hope Dobes has a better story.
Thx

Nice story for sure....let's hope he can stabalize the net and give Monty some time off.
Every team needs a steady back up who can push the starter, and in some cases steal the net.

Fowler is the prize we all know this, but nice to hear about Dobes

My position re MSL hasn’t changed. Habs need a different coach to take the next step.

Sounds like Mailloux has slipped a little in the AHL recently.....

They are teaching him how to play D in a sustainable way. I underestimated how green his defensive game was and the repercussions of his stunted development in junior.

But I believe in him still.

That was fun. Going in thought it was a guaranteed loss.

Fingers crossed that was the breakout Dach needed. And can't do better than Dobes did.

MSL equalizing the D TOI since Carrier arrived.

Interesting. The more I watch Laval, the less I believe in his ability to thrive at the next level. The more I watch, the more I believe that Trudeau has passed Mailloux on the Canadiens’ depth chart. On skating alone, Trudeau is a superior prospect. As for offensive potential, Laval is now correctly playing Trudeau on the first power play unit ahead of both Mailloux and Engstrom. Defensively, Trudeau plays on the penalty killing unit, something no one with an ounce of hockey knowledge would allow Mailloux to do.

I’ve often said the most certain thing in hockey is the uncertainty in the development curve of young players. Sometimes, that uncertainty dashes one’s hopes for a player’s ultimate upside. Sometimes, that uncertainty works in your favour with an unheralded prospect stepping up. In Trudeau’s case, it’s clearly a case of the latter as he has assumed an ever increasing role(s) in all facets of Laval’s play.

For those still awaiting (expecting) Mailloux’s emergence as a top 2 NHL defenceman, I would strongly suggest you subscribe to FloHockey and actually watch this kid's play and then come back and tell us if you are still confident about this kid’s potential.

I’m not. But strongly hoping I’m wrong.

Y’all act like Armia wasn’t absolutely elite when he played with Perry on that finals run. 1 of the main reasons we had success

Until the next bad loss. Such is the fan base of this storied franchise.
He should still be gone in the summer.

While I was never sold on Primeau as a long term solution for the Canadiens' goaltending needs ( I hate goalies who spend most of the game on their knees), I wouldn't jump on the Dobes band wagon yet. Remember that Primeau had two shutouts last season and in the game last night, the Panthers hit the goalpost three times and Canadiens' defencemen block a number of dangerous shots that appeared to be labeled. A quarter of inch either way and the conversation today would be much, much different.

Saying Dobes inspires more confidence in you than Primeau, is damning Dobes with the faintest of praise. More importantly, Dobes seems to have inspired more confidence in his teammates, who were beginning to view any game that Primeau was starting as a probable loss.

Don't get me wrong, I loved the way Dobes played last night, I liked how comfortable he looked in the net and the way the pucks just seemed to stick to him. What I don't like is the way he presents his catching mitt at times, I dunno if it's just an aesthetic thing, but it looks awkward to me.

Just an observation I had.
