I have high praise for Dallas after this game considering their injury status. They looked monstrous out there.

Dobbie does Dallas in this time, but nobody should think that we win this one best out of 7. That said, I think once the team fills a few holes in the lineup, they can really contend.

He's very inconsistent and often looks like he doesn't give a shit, people will always call out that type of player first. Doesn't make them haters imo. Plus he was overpaid for a while, with the growing cap it's less of an issue now.

He's had good moments like the 2021 playoff run and right now but I think he's been meh at best overall if we consider the whole picture and I'm being nice. Let's just agree to disagree.
Armia's been good since the 2nd half of last season

They will certainly try to add whatever they think is needed before the start of next season. Doesn't mean they will be able to but they will try. And if they are in a playoff spot at the trade dealine they will try to add without giving up any valuable assets.
2025 is the summer when a lot happens. The current streak the team is on, will have been an eye-opener, plus all the cap room they’ll have.

Somewhat............he is far too inconsistent for me. His whole career has been like a roller coaster, he has the size and talent, but at times only shows up every 8-9 games.........strange beast.
we're not signing him to be Gretzky, we're signing him to win 4th line matchups and step up on other lines when there's injuries, op top of that he PKs well and has chemistry with Evans

i have no problem giving him a 2-3 year contract, i think he can easily find more term on the UFA market tho

for me the main players that have to go are Anderson and Gally, i wouldn't even be against signing Dvo if he accepts taking a discount to stay, Dvo and Evans are both solid interchangeable bottom 6 centers, just have Beck play the wing for a few seasons until he gets used to NHL lvl hockey

basically we just have to make room for Demidov (next season)/Beck (next season maybe)/Kapanen (next season maybe), you have a bit more time with Beck/Kapanen if you wanna keep them down and bring them up when there's injuries next season, no need to rush them

Low hanging fruit but one guy who needs to be punted is Pez

Weird Al has had his moment the past few yrs, got a taste of the NHL because of the rebuild, but he needs to be where he belongs

The AHL at best

The only way Armia can win 4th line matchup next season is if either Demidov is not in the NHL, you trade someone (Gallagher, Anderson, Newhook, ...), you don't sign Evans and move Newhook to center or move Armia to center.

Caufield - Suzuki - Slaf
Laine - Dach - Demidov
Newhook - Evans - Heineman
Anderson - ? - Gallagher

ya sorry i edited my post, the premise is if you move Anderson and Gally which wouldn't be easy, i think it's what the team needs tho (while being salary cap conscious by resigning Armia/Evans and maybe Dvo) to take a step forward and integrate the younger guys in

Caufield - Suzuki - Slaf
Laine - Dach - Demidov
Newhook - Dvo - Beck or Kapanen (1 has to stay in AHL)
Armia - Evans - Heineman

If we can move Gallagher that would be great. He started the year strong but has been quite unproductive for couple of games now. I do prefer a 4th of Anderson and Armia to Anderson and Gallagher.

realistically i think they'll be able to move Anderson but not Gally so lineup could look like something like this next season

Caufield - Suzuki - Slaf
Laine - Dach - Demidov
Newhook - Dvo - Gally (instead of Beck + Kapanen, they'll be getting minutes in the AHL and getting called up a lot, bring em up if there's a playoff run next season but they'll be regulars for sure in 2 seasons)
Armia - Evans - Heineman

i don't think they wanna tinker too much with chemistry and they can afford to take it slow with Beck and Kapanen, Laine's contract is done after next season too so who knows how that'll play out

I highly doubt Dvo will be back. That would require a substantial drop in salary and unlike Armia he's not old enough to agree with that he'll test the market to see if someone bite. At one point they'll have to tinker with the chemistry as this team aint good enough atm. And ideally we don't want that to happen in more than 2 years if you want Suzuki to be young enough. Don't forget chemistry was the reason why DD was our 1st line center for so long.

ya probably, depends on what he wants

i'd rather ease Beck/Kapanen into the league instead of having them play super hard defensive minutes with like 70% dzone 30% ozone draws at center, that's a lot for young players to handle

they could both learn a lot playing on the wing for 1-2 seasons with those guys tho

Opinions about Newhook are quite divided. He’d be more useful if he could handle C. I have not been paying that much attention to him — do you feel he has the IQ to be a full time 3C?

No idea. He's hard to gauge honestly. He skates well. Has a good shot. I think his release is not quick enough but given enough time his shot is good. Don't think he's lazy he seems to work well. He just doesn't seem to be doing the right thing at the right time. I'd prefer him at center too this is where he played last year after Monahan was traded.

3C needs to be a two-way player, imo. I don't think Newhook can kill penalties. Evans really needs to be resigned. We need a Plekanec/Danault type of player. Someone we can trust out there defensively. Beck can replace him eventually but not yet. Without Evans, I can already see our PK suffer next season and it'd give Suzuki more responsibilities. I think most people here don't want that.
