Do You Think this Seasons Version of Stuart Skinner Can Win the Cup this Season

After Stu's venturing out of the net, sliding out of the net, spinning around backwards to the play against Winnipeg, and the famous scorpion, I'd be surprised if he's even on the roster next year.

He was only ever supposed to be the backup, so it's on management for always chasing the shiny new forward instead.

NIce to be able to login to the site since before the trade deadline too.

I’m not sure if he’s even better then the average backup

He also has a penchant for third period goals against

This guy is 36th place in goals against, are we not one of the best defensive teams in the league? In a theoretical sense?

No, he is not a good goalie. Our defence is also not very good. These have been issues for the last decade and have not been adequately addressed. Management made the team worse over the summer with the moves they made and the moves they didn’t make.

Once we are in the playoffs anything can happen.

Bowman shouldn't be fired if Skinner falters.

Did the defence not just largely carry the team to a Cup Finals like a season ago? Pretty sure it wasn't Skinner's .901 save percentage.

Skinner sucks. Even earlier in the year we were 6th best in goals against even with wishy washy goaltending.

Skinner is a somewhat below-average NHL goalie, Pickard is maybe average at his best, and the Oilers are around an average NHL defensive unit, in my view.

So, as 2025 goes (assuming they don't lose 12 in a row or something and miss the playoffs from here on), the only relevant quesiton now is: Can the Oilers score enough goals to compensate for mediocrity in their own half of the ice? And I don't know the answer. They're a weirdly offensively constipated club despite the evident forward talent + Bouchard.

I have long maintained that I don't believe this years' version of the Oilers is as good as last years' was, hence I can't see them getting to the finals this year let alone winning the cup ! :dunno:
