Do You Think this Seasons Version of Stuart Skinner Can Win the Cup this Season

How in the f*** does a guy with shitty stats like that get to be an NHL Goalie coach for a decade AND advisor to the GM as to which free agent goalie to sign for 5 years at $25M?
He’s got to have some pretty incriminating dirt on someone. Or he’s a hypnotist and everyone they go to fire him, heaps his fingers and they tell him he’s doing a great job and excuse him. They’ve been trying to fire him every day for the past six years.

Just like the past 2 years, this year will be no different. Oilers likely lose to the Stanley cup champs for the 3rd time simply because Skinner sucks and the Oilers can’t continue to play perfect hockey to bail him out.

Think about this, the Oilers have been the best Oilers in over 40 years for the 3rd year in a roll and this is the goalie we are going to rely on?

I mean, in Schwartz defense - have you ever seen what Ken Hitchcock looks like? Somehow I doubt his tier three rec league stats were particularly impressive.

One of the best coaches ever in the game in his prime...

That being said - Schwartz is clearly not Hitchcock. 😂

For posterity - Ken Hitchcock in 1979;

I get what you’re saying but Head Coaches usually defer to a goalie guru of some type.
Schwartz numbers barely get you into beer league ffs.

I don't know much about goaltending, but In the game vs the Rangers did it seems like Skinner was less jumpy? His Butterfly looked different and he wasn't flopping around like a moron all game.

Let's hope the goalies keep up the good play of the last 2 games.

A lot of that was the Rangers being tired and not very many real good deceptive shots.
Skinner needed that game.

Our team can probably drag any goalie to a cup, the question is just how much dragging wil be necessary.

When you consider his playoff save percentage is much worse than regular season, aka historicaly bad, you can pretty much assume he gonna be a burden to overcome.

But hey everything can happen, despite being super far from a good bet, we have history of bad goalie getting hot, so let's hope we keep rolling natural 20.

Skinner had a very good, sound, bounce back game. It's honestly a strength of his.

My current take on Skinner is:
1) Tactically sound
2) Good mental toughness
3) Only average consistency (when off, very off)
4) Athletically below par

A goalie like that can probably win a cup on a team that is exceptionally sound defensively and scores more than most. I know the fancies support the fact that we are a top defensive team. But my eye test says that's not actually true. What I see is that we are a low-event defensive team... but those low event breakdowns are pretty horrendous.
