John Tavares .................. 12 goals & 32 points @ $11 mil cap hit
William Nylander ....... 13 goals & 30 points @ $7 mil cap hit
Zach Hymen ...................13 goals & 28 points @ $2.25 mil cap hit

Tavares cap hit cost per goal = $917k
Nylander cap hit cost per goal = $538K
Hyman cap hit cost per goal = $173K

our boy Hyman is going to price himself off this team, for sure

Seems to me like his shot isn't as good as it was in past ... he is still getting his chances every game which is a positive ... but he is not scoring like he used to on his kill zone chances ... I have no stat records on this observation but just seeing it from da eye test ...

Yes I wish I had clips of last night's match as examples but I'm sure many did notice he could've had a couple goals.

Playmaking abilities? He could've had a couple of assists too if only he'd grow eyes at back of his head, unfortunately he has tendency to "look off" linemates.

Maybe I just have too high of expectations of him. He has either slowed down/slow to react or has become impatient/need to pick his spots better. He is still high skilled and should be producing so much more.

Not sure why I found it interesting but I did.
JT was on the bench in the last minute of a game protecting a lead last night.
Matthews-Marner-Hyman were rolled out.
I guess this is the new norm but I remember the days you would always have 2 centremen out with a late faceoff in your end.

Matty played out of his mind defensively last night ... no surprise to me ... any good coach would have done same thing ... my only question is why was Rielly out there???????????? ... da only reason Habs got 2nd goal if you watch closely is Rielly had his man covered fine then he got a little cross check from Perry and he skated away to top of circle and let Perry have our net ... then instead of bull dozing him from behind with a hard cross check he tries to go around him with his stick ... as a player what that means is he wanted no part of Perry and tried to do things da easy way ... guys like that tend to do same moves over and over and over ... next time hopefully Keefer sits his *ss on da pine

its kind of funny how underrated tavares has suddenly become. i remember when we got him i had to remind everyone here that Matthews was certainly better than Tavares, while most of leafs nation were convinced we had finally landed the True Stud #1C that the flawed Matthews could play behind comfortably.

And now suddenly people think he's just an ok 2nd line C.

Of course Tavares is a goalscorer - one of the best of his generation

Career Goals per Game, Active players:

1. Ovechkin .61
2. Matthews .58
3. Stamkos .52
4. Crosby .47
5. McDavid .47
6. Pastrnak .47
7. Malkin .45
8. Laine .44
9. Kucherov .43
10. Connor .43
11. Tavares .42
12. Tarasenko.42
13. Draisaitl .41
14. Guentzel .41
15. Kane .40
16. Point .40

I think you are the only one who remembers that Zeke lol

People have lost perspective because of how much talent is on this team. Tavares is in the top half of 1st line centers in point production, goal production, Goals/60 and #22 in Pts/60 since he's been in Toronto. He's still a 1st line center this year by both goals and points measures, well inside to top 31.

To go along with the OP, my quick and dirty only found 2 NHL players (OV and Stamkos) who have scored more goals than JT since JT entered the league in 2009-10. Still waiting for him to get hot this season. It's going to happen.

Honestly, why wouldn’t Tavares sign here? Makes the most sense.

Weren't you in favour of signing Tavares at a high price tag?

I agree, Montreal pulled their goalie on the fly with Reilly on the ice. How Reilly could leave Perry alone to do as he pleased I can't explain. Zero urgency displayed.

He's a mudder. His father was a mudder. And his mother was a mudder.

JT loves the Habs

No. He isn't an 11 million goal scorer anymore. So we better find him a winger to unlock his full potential.

I bet if you were on ice Perry probably scared da sh*t out of him with something he said ... whatever was said Rielly wanted no part of any of it ... this is problem we have in playoffs in a nutshell ... too many guys who are a little bit too scared ... we always knew on ice who were guys we could easily intimidate with a few choice words ... anywho those types can't be sent on ice with games on a da line because they will always give up da ghost

Do I think that Tavares is still a goal scorer?
He still may return to form but right now ?
No I don’t.
