Do you think goaltenders fear being the one that gives up Ovechkin's goal #895?

Absolutely not. They will be shown and remembered forever in the video.

It's Ovechkin, it'll be an empty netter anyways.

Nope because it's gonna be an empty net goal

There is some talk to Ovechkin scoring an empty-net goal in this thread to score goal #895.

Do you think that could actually happen?

Would Ovechkin shoot the puck into an empty-net for #895?

Or would he intentionally pass on that type of goal so that #895 was obtained with an actual goaltender in net?

It's not going to be an empty net goal.

Carbury already said he talked to Ovie and they agreed he's not going to put Ovie on the ice for empty net situations with 895 looming.

I assume Kirk McLean, since he scored #802 against the Canucks?
Yes, I don't have to look it up, but it's not because I know of McLean and that awful experience, nor is it the opposite....McLean is a nothing memory really....but if someone asks the question, I remember him scoring the goalie against Vancouver, because you remember seeing it....and McLean would be the only goalie I really remember playing with Vancouver at the time (didn't watch much of them).

I remember point 1,851 a little better...was against Edmonton in OT and against Bill Rantford.....again, not because I have a memory of Rantford letting it in, but I watched a lot of Edm back then and I actually liked Rantford quite a bit, not sure why as I don't tend to to be drawn to goalies.....and knew he was playing.

It's funny, if you google who Gretzky scored the OT goal against Edm to pass Howe for 1,851pts, AI will tell you it was Dave Dryden.....I've never heard of Dave Dryden, but looking him up, he played in the 70s....would have actually played with Gretzky in 1979 with the Oilers....but that was it, so he retired 10 years before Gretzky scored his 1,851st point.

Long winded way of say "No" the goalie won't care at all....other than perhaps wanting to the be the guy, but I do believe most people will remember the team he scored against, but would have to think about who the goalie was.

If it's a great goal sure.
If you shitted the bed on a muffin not so much.

With the way the Caps playing, it might end up an empty net thoo

Hopefully it's a nobody because it'd be nice for them to be remembered forever as the one Ovechkin scored the all-time goals record on.

I think it'll happen on April 4th vs Chicago.

Most goalies are head cases to begin with. Some would be cool & roll with it, others might become suicidal (hopefully not...). Most I think would be fine, it's not like they don't give up goals on a regular basis anyway.

(is there any goalie who's played the Caps, say 15-20 times that Ovi hasn't scored on? That would be something to be proud of)

I feel like any goalie would really not want it to be them, but that’s mainly just because of how competitive they have to be in order to make it to the NHL level in the first place. Then once it actually happens, at least part of them would probably be able to revert from pro athlete mode into a hockey fan for a moment, and recognize how cool it is.
