Malkin has 1 year left. He receives a 3.8 million dollar bonus July 1, then has a $1 million 2025/26 salary. Do you expect him to collect his bonus then retire or play out the season?
I fully expect him to retire ASAP, I remember him making comments about wanting to get out of the NHL and go back to Russia for family reasons. I think he's done with hockey and he has nothing to prove to anyone.
Barring Pittsburgh magically ascending back into contention I think Malkin will retire after next season. And I'm not emotionally prepared for that tbh.
I'd trade so much just to have Geno come to Vancouver for a year and teach Elias Petey how to be a moody, mercurial ultra talented weirdo...but also a dominant offensive force. Like the little Sundin thing, but Malkin is actually still really good.
Malkin has stated to the media that he will play for the Pens next season and has no interest in finishing his professional career with any other team.
