Do you consider Carolina a hated rival?

I consider them rivals but not along the lines of others like the Rangers and Philly. Rangers are by far the biggest for me. Just some sort of arrogance with that city that’s extremely annoying. They haven’t won much even though they get all the advantages in the world.

I find the Canes annoying but I respect them. They’re a good team right now. Annoying that they’ve had our number ever since 2001. Even that series they were an annoying out. Then 02 sucked and I was at that 1-0 Kevin Weekes shutout. 06 was a major bummer right after we swept the Rangers. That really pissed me off. Don’t even want to talk about 09. That was a disaster. And then they completely owned us in the 2023 playoffs.

I still carry hate for the Rangers and their fans and I haven’t lived in Jersey for like 14 years but I still can’t stand them. I never really had to deal with Canes fans so I can’t speak about them.

How are we feeling about this going into this series? I thought the regular season games were pretty intense.

Yeah. They were always pain in some place.
And it doesn't look we will correct the history this year. And I would not worry about any team from our division outside canes.

Yea, rival at a standard level compared to the high aggression of hate towards other rivals

However I feel like we clash more on playoffs more so in regular season.

Playoff wise we be rivals since they've been our headache for the longest

Still feel the same. Rangers and Flyers are our main rivals. Geography and history.

Carolina needs a team in Charlotte or Atlanta (or hear me out - both) to have a real rival.

Just like a team in Portland would really rip in the Pacific Northwest between Vancouver, Seattle, and Portland. That would be ugly just like NYC metro - except is a more calm and thc and coffee fueled “you’re like, really not my jam man” kind of way

If I was a younger Devils fan I'd have Carolina 2nd to the Rangers right now but, I'm not of course. Philly will always be Philly as a sports city in general that I'll despise. Carolina almost shares the podium with the Iclanders.

Come on. The Devils haven't faced the Islanders in the playoffs in over 35 years. They have never really been in a playoff race with them, or contesting the division against them, at least not in my memory (30 years). The Devils first made the playoffs in 1988, 37 years ago. Here are the years where both the Islanders and Devils made the playoffs - 1988, 1990, 1993, 1994, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2007, 2023. So 4 times in the first 7 years, and then 5 times in the next 30. And here is the real kicker - both teams have never won a playoff round in the same year.

They finished within 9 points of one another this season and 13 points of one another last season and the Devils' trend is going up and the Islanders is going down. They've faced Carolina 5 times in the playoffs since 2001.

Their last 2 playoff series have been against Carolina, 3 of their last 10, 4 of their last 14.

Ya I don't give two shits about the Islanders players but I just really hate their fans, especially when they are good. They come out of the woodwork at our arena and act just like the dip shits in a different shade of blue that they say they hate so much.

What opposing fans does anyone like? Most fans you interact with will be thr jackass fans who look to stir the pot

It's way different when there's way more of them and they do stupid chants all game long. Most away fans in our building aren't like that.

SOMEWHAT true, but not always. And w/r/t Carolina, it's not the stirring of the pot - they don't really do that. It's more the lack of understanding why the "ref" is "calling a penalty" when it's icing. Things like that. It's legion at Lenovo Center, and it's tiresome.
