This been on my mind for a while and I cant keep it in anymore. This is not going to be easy to swallow but I think many of you are thinking it too but just not ready to accept it or hear it out loud or be caught saying it, but you are probably guilty of enjoying watching someone else brave enough to say it.
I usually join and help those guys who defend the core at all costs but my patience only has 1 year left for Marner to play like he cares and willing to take a scratch in the playoffs instead of being easily isolated on perimeter. All you have to do to beat marner lead team in playoffs is to give him the entire outside and focus on lanes only. If he tries to come inside lay the body on him and he retreats back to the perimeter. It is in your best interest to let him juice up his xGF and give him the illusion he's dominating. It's very low intensity high xGF play. It also guarantees you play the Leafs with puck on Marners stick more than it's on Matthews.
Wasting Matthews not having him qb the first line in playoffs. They run everything through Marner which is totally stupid when a generational player is on the line. The entire team needs to run everything through matthews and tavares. In playoffs Nylander is then my 3rd and Marner is my 4th. Watch how easy all the series wins comes if you re-adjust for playoffs. I am telling you, Marner should not be the face of the team in the playoffs. That's one of the main issues. Not as big as Dubas' pathetic depth compositions, but still big.
If Marner still proves to show this playoffs that he's elite at hockey but not an athlete, we need to do what florida did converting huberdeau into tkachuk because you can't pay a guy going into his 30s 10+ mil if they don't have an athlete body or born with god gifted athletic traits like Tavares, Matthews, Nylander (not worth 10, just saying Marner would be better and worth keeping past 28 if he had Nylanders body especially the seperation burst you can only be born with) etc. Marner only has god given hockey elite skill but it's still a sport you need to be an athlete too and by the playoffs he's toast and too easy to play against.
This fear started very slowly and gradually since the combine when I heard he had the grip strength of a 10 year old and then it started showing in his shot. If he can't figure it out now and dominate the playoffs he is sadly not going to be figuring it out when he's on the wrong side of 28. Look at a guy like Mackinnon he's a downright psycopath when it comes to his training you have to actually kill him to make him miss a training day or break his strict meal plan. Marner should be doing this at a minimum since he's not strong genetically
