Do the Leafs have a good plan for winning the SC?

  • Xenforo Cloud has scheduled an upgrade to XenForo version 2.2.16. This will take place on or shortly after the following date and time: Jul 05, 2024 at 05:00 PM (PT) There shouldn't be any downtime, as it's just a maintenance release. More info here

Marner and Tavares need to go, so far the core 4 failed badly and honestly since all 4 of them are in the McDrai range (Drai at 8 which they're all over and Cons at 12 which they were all under) while not playing like that at all.

We'll see if they have the balls to do it.

Soft president hired a soft GM who hired a soft coach who coached the team into softness.

Shanahan should've been fired already, unfortunately for the Leafs owners they actually have won multiple cups, the cup of insane profitability and honestly I think if they had the choice of losing+jersey sales or winning with players who are less good looking/popular, they'd choose to lose and make lots of money.

Sure they do. It's the toughest sport to win a championship along with MLB. They just need to be patient.
Patient until the next rebuild? How long do you ride the failed core and be patient hoping it will magically have different results?

Almost ever Cup winner jettisoned core players to get over the top and win. Go back to the Wings first Cup where they shipped out Primeau, Coffey, Ciccarelli, Sheppard to reshape the roster into a better playoff team with Shanahan, Sandstrom, and Murphy. Sometimes you have to “lose” trades to make your team better if the core isn’t getting it done.

My boy are you new to hockey?

Leafs arent winning...maybe ever again

Shanahan is the worst president in the league

We are targetting #3 or 4Ds and hoping our 70ish pt playoff players (playing R1 almost exclusively) making ~53% of the cap next year will some how magically become 100 pt playoff players and wull us to a cup

Every team that has been a known choker changed their core up

Caps --> semin, Green, varlamov

Panthers --> Dadanov, Matheson, Hoffman, Hubes

Tampa (the leaf changes tbf) --> JT miller, Bishop

Avs --> Duchene, RoR, Varlamov

Blues --> Backes, Shattenkirk, Oshie

Leafs run the same 5 guys back, will extend marner 8 years and give Tavares a 2-3 year deal aftee and pretend we are close to being anythinf besides a 1st round bye for our opponents.
You could say the same thing about old Sabres players and NO ONE would EVER accuse the Sabres of being a loser franchise!!!

The sabres are a loser franchise, history full of failure

You are right, they dealt/moved on from their core and tried to rebuild and thats been a 11/12 year process of insane failure

If there is an onwership group worse than MLSE in terms of complacency its probably Buffalo

Yeah, it’s amazing.

The past 70 years of ownership really shows you what they care about. MONEY.

People buy tickets and jerseys regardless of who’s on the team or how they’re playing, if your goal is money why pay massive bonuses up front to UFAs, spend a metric shit ton on the most bloated front office + training/medical staff in the league, etc? A toddler could minmax better for money if that’s the goal.

They always have a plan. They’ve had plans since 1967. I don’t think any plan will be good enough to get them a Cup though.

TIL that jt miller was part of TBs 'core.'

The main plan of Leafs' upper management is for Brendan Shanahan to keep his job for as long as possible so that he can make some money. That's the Shanaplan. It's been successful for many years.

Just don't sign Stamkos, that is not a good plan. Tavares signing didn't really do what they had hoped, top heavy offense didn't work. Having questionable goalies, ask Philly how that worked out for them.

Toronto used to be unique, no matter how bad the team is, the fans used to show up and buy the merch. Is this still the case?
