Do the Leafs get more credit in hindsight for taking the Panthers to 7 games?

I think Leafs clearly deserve the title of the second best team in the East. It's not much of an honor, but it does put calls for tear down and rebuild into proper perspective.

Why should they? They lost in dramatically terrible fashion in their own building. They got exactly as far as they deserved to and the fact that they took it to 7 games isn't a factor; they lost, end of story.

Win, or don't.

No, they can not run it back. 2nd best is not good enough. People forget that Max freaking Paccioretty had to save their asses from potentially having to play game 7 against Ottawa. This is not a contending team. We saw red flags during the Ottawa series already. 2-0 series against Florida was a fluke.

Man this would hurt if you were a Leafs fan

Had a chance to go up 3-0 in the series and blew it in game 3. Then lay an egg game 4.

TO would have waltzed to a cup final.

We don't know that, which is the fun of it. Florida is spanking the Canes up and down the ice, sure, but it's likely the Canes could have done the same to the Leafs.

No, I see it as just a regression to the mean. Florida was gonna catch up, they weren't gonna lay down. Once they started playing, Toronto had no answers. They are not even close to Florida's level, or Edmonton's level, or Dallas' level.

They had a 2-0 lead and then butchered 2 games at home getting completely destroyed.

Also they made round 2 because they played Ottawa

Same thing for Washington they were ass they won because they played against a rebuilding team and completely crumbled after.

Reilly Nylander Tavares Marner and Matthews have been a disaster for almost a decade now.

Woll is a loser. AHL caliber.. the leafs played differently in front of Stolarz. It would have been a very different series.

Then the whole team are losers if they play differently in front of Woll. Losers. Plain and simple. Stolarz wasn't playing all the games. 0% chance. He would have sustained another injury, he never played this many games ever.

My gut says no. I think Florida just elevated their game mid way through round two and haven't come down from that yet. Toronto forced game seven after allowing the Panthers to overcome a 2-0 deficit, not because the Leafs clawed their way into the series or were keeping it close every game

The whole roster are losers, singling out one goalie (who did well all things considered) is a cop-out.

3 coaches, 3 GMs, something like 6 or 7 goalies, a pile of different flavours of defencemen, a complete recompile of the bottom six and a few extras in the top 6, and nothing to show for it. It all boils down to Shannahan being a stubborn tool, and the core 5 (I'm adding Reilly) becoming the new, slightly more advanced, Muskoka 5.
