JJ Daignault, enough said.
I knew it. As soon as the optimism runs dry, and the "the playoffs are a new season" loses it's luster, the conspiracy theories will arrive.
How about this: We aren't very good. We're not horrible, but not very good. And yes, the first 40 games were a bit of luck, easy scheduling and running on fumes of a new coach, system, etc.
I think not. But sucking on purpose can be achieved in a myriad of ways: putting defensive liabilities on the PK, breaking forward chemistry...
Did aliens build the pyramids?
What I think is absolutely hilarious is that on the very day that they finally convince me that they're the real deal, they turn into crap.... just makes me laugh.
Whatever happens, this year was a big step forward. So maybe we're not as good a team as we seemed to be for most of the year but we're not as bad as we've been playing lately.
Big steps forward for Gallagher, Galchenyuk, Eller, Subban... just great development years and something to build on. I'm not worried about Price or Max. They'll turn it around, if not this year then next.
Even if we're four and out, it hasn't been a wasted year.
I've been saying this ALL season. Which is why I was really really impressed with Bergevin not getting lured in and dishing off draft picks. It's a half season, teams took a long time to get going and now that every one is hitting their stride, the Habs are showing that they just aren't there yet. Especially on the back-end and there's a few holes/roles to fill on the offensive side of things.
Hell, the Leafs are making the play-offs. Because every one knows the Leafs are only a good team for half a season.

He will not be adding much giving by DD the kind of money he gave him takes a big chunk out of the cap space we have left. What amuses me is the people saying MaxPac has had a bad or tough year. Maybe he hasn't been as consistent, but he's still on a career scoring pace, he'd get over 70pts with just a few goals short of 30 in a full season, and yet people are saying he struggled.
But I'm with you, even if we get swept, it's been a successful year imo.
For the most part, I like what I've seen from management, our youngsters have shown great things, even prospects like Tinordi and Beaulieu demonstrated their skills and I was pleased with what I saw. Heck, even Dumont somewhat impressed me.
Markov's knee seem to finally have healed. Despite getting older, I expect him to be better next year. Two years off from competition is really tough. You can build as much muscles as you want and work on your conditioning but nothing compares to the gruesome fatigue of a NHL schedule with traveling, back to back games, physicality during those games, etc..
So unlike others who think Markov will lose an extra step and look slower next year, I believe he'll be better.
PK is becoming one of the best Dman in the NHL.
If Bergevin can make a few moves this summer to improve our top 6, make us a bit meaner, and add another top 4 stay at home D, we can be a very competitive team and solidify our reputation as one for years.
