Do Shootout Wins Feel Satisfying to You?

I've never found them that satisfying. They just don't feel the same as regulation or OT wins. I know some consider three on three OT kind of gimmicky, but I'll take an OT win every day of the week over a SO win.

Also, shootout losses don't really sting that much. They leave somewhat of a bitter taste in my mouth, but I basically say, "meh... f*** shootouts" and shrug them off.

TOR hasn't had a SO this season, and I hope that doesn't change. :)

I was excited for the introduction of the shootout back in 2005, but it didn't take me long to develop a dislike for shootouts.

100% if the other team wins in a skill competition it doesn't necessarily mean they were the better team, whereas if you went longer in OT your team might've won. If my team wins in a shootout I'm like sure I'll take it but if my team loses in one, I'm basically "Whatever it was pretty much tied"

In almost every game that ends in a shootout, either

A. Both teams have played well enough that giving either one a loss based off a shootout seems wrong

Or

B. Both teams have played poorly enough that giving either one a win based off a shootout seems wrong

The need to declare a winner in either of those scenarios is the problem.

Shootouts no longer are a team game and instead become completely individual so they're entirely disconnected from the game of hockey. While 3on3 OT is pretty lame, at least you're still sorta playing hockey. But shootouts are the sort of stuff I was doing in our backyard when I was 8 years old.

3 on 3 is pretty lame as well. My team is really good at 3on3 OT, but it all boils down to stopping a shot and having a 2 on 1 break the other way. Which is kind of lame.

One of my favorite blogs started replacing 3v3 OT and shootout wins with random other activities in the headlines of their recaps.

Bolts and Blackhawks tie 3-3, Bolts win flip-cup competition.

Blackhawks and Blues tie 2-2, Hawks win dance off.

Etc.

I felt that was a pretty good way of demonstrating how much satisfaction or disappointment a 3v3 OT or SO win/loss carried.

Honestly, they should just go with a home-rink advantage.

Any game that ends in a tie, win goes to the home team, along with all the standings points.

None of the ‘playing for a tie’ garbage we saw in the 90s. If the away team is tied and they need standings points, they’ll play hard.

Of course it's lame but still better than shootouts.
Its really not.

Neither presents or plays anything much like proper 5v5 hockey
