The leafs have had more playoff debacles to learn from and the parade route is already planned for them by the hockey gods
Finally, someone on my page. I sense your hope but understand your fear. I hope we truly are both wrong and that adding Tanev and Schen while losing Schmidt and Dillon help plus Perfetti's emergence continues. I also am hoping Tafolli and Monoghan were a large part of last year's issue!
I'm sorry when you give answers like this about the Leafs and then can't spell half of the Jets players name's remotely right you come off as Leafs fan on the Jets board just to cause shit . But that answer about the Leafs, who lost to the Sharks last night bye the way, did make me laugh....

I have been called out for being concerned regular season success does not guarantee playoff success based on the past 2 playoff 'debacles'. I know I am not the only one who is thinking this way. The playoffs is a brand new season. The jets have ben exceptional this year but still have weaknesses that can be exploited . I think this is a very reasonable reason to be concerned considering the playoffs is a new season, a war of attrition and they have 'crashed and burned the past two playoff seasons.

I hope to get serious responses but we will see.
Thanks,

First off the Playoff problem with the Jets extends further than the “past 2 debacles”. In all but one series of the 2.0 era (St Louis) the Jets have lost the last 4 games in a row in the series they were eliminated in. I would say if it wasn’t for their one run in 2017-18 they would be the worst playoff performing team in the NHL over the past decade.

Next order of business is you asked “am I concerned” and the answer is, not any more. If they do well in the playoffs I would really enjoy that. If they crash and burn then it is what it is. I have moved past “playoff or bust” mentality in my fandom. I am now “trying” to live by the moto “expectations are the thief of joy”. The regular season is 82 games that extends from the fall to the late spring and that is where I derive my value as a Jets fan. Only one team wins the tournament in the spring and everyone else is left defeated. Playoff defeat will always sting but I rebooted my value proposition as a fan and I am now all about the journey.

Last piece, how I feel about the teams chances don’t impact much. The team has sucked at playoffs in the past but that narrative doesn’t need to define this spring. Lots of examples of teams that finally break through after learning to lose over and over. Maybe it’s our post season, maybe not.

This is a season I will always look back on with a smile.

I'm definitely concerned given our penchant for crashing out. You don't get over the hump until you get over the hump.

Having said that this team feels different to me. They have been measured and mature all year. We haven't seen the same wheel fall off moments as past years. The team looks to be better mentally prepared to absorb the ups and downs of playoff hockey.

But the proof will be in the pudding in a couple of weeks. I'm concerned but also optimistic at the same time.

As usual @ps241 wrote a good post here, and I agree with it for the most part. As he said, it's not just the last two playoffs, it goes back further. The core of this team is pretty much the same, the entire team isn't much different from last year.

But I'm also on the same boat with not being concerned ... I've just been taking every game for what it is this season, not getting up or down, just enjoying the ride. Whatever happens in the playoffs happens I'm not getting all upset about it like last year, or getting to high if they do well. Just enjoy the entertainment.

EDIT: And yes, for the record, I did vote "yet" on the poll, mostly because there wasn't an option that accurately reflects my position. But "yes" seems closest, since I acknowledge past years' performances leave me in doubt how they'd do (NB in doubt doesn't mean I'm declaring they'll certainly flame out again).

Agreed and its been a incredible season so far. Ultimately there isn't a damn thing we can do about the outcomes of games except cheer our ass's off during the White-outs and try and help push the guys over the line.

There is always some uncertainty. Jets poor PO performance the last couple of years adds only very slightly to that.

The hope and expectation is that they will have learned.

You mean those same hockey gods that have given them so many cups the last 57 years.
Yeah I'm not feeling a vibe that the Maple Leafs have "turned the corner" and this will be their year ... but I haven't followed them at all this year, without looking at the standings I couldn't even tell you whether they're leading their division or fighting for a wild card spot.

Jets will have to beat 3 out of 4 division rivals to make the SCF against the Caps. Yes, the first WC team will beat the shit out of the Pacific.

That 4-straight-loss playoff futility extends back to the Atlanta days of the franchise as well...I wonder if it doesn't psychologically haunt the current players, even though there's no one around who was there for the Atlanta days, and only Scheifele and Lowry were on that team that lost to the Ducks in 2015.

I really thought Wheeler was a big part of the problem - he seemed to drag the team down with him when he was sulking (end of the 2018 Vegas series, end of the Blues series, and I thought the "no pushback" game of the 2023 series against Vegas felt like a Wheeler sulkbomb as well). But Wheeler was gone last year and the Jets still imploded.

i mean yeah...I'm a little pessimistic by nature so I'm adopting a wait and see attitude based on this team's last four playoff appearances. I'm not however leaping at every opportunity to post constantly about my concerns in a way that is obviously ridiculous. It's entirely possible to be wary without being a Richard.

If the Leafs were in the Central they wouldn't be making the playoffs but because they are in a weak division they will.

I'm REALLY enjoying this season... probably more than any other in 2.0's tenure.

But if I'm being honest, I have that nagging voice in the back of my head about past playoff performances. The inexplicable lackadaisical play etc. So to remain honest, I voted yes.

Second 'but'.... I'm not worrying about it, I'm just going to enjoy every game.

Anything can happen in the playoffs it is a new season plus all streaks eventually end. I hope I am wrong and that Johnny Tavares does not lead them to the cup or we have to see Willy Nylander at the parade without his shirt on!

Thanks to all who have voted thus far. it is pretty much a 60/40 split in favour of the 'yes' category, which shows I am not the only one with concerns based on past history. Once again, I am hoping I am wrong!!

Just wondering if you'd like to make a bet about whether the Leafs will win the Cup this year or not?

Yea it seems like a good time for the team to turn the page and start a new chapter.

I am not concerned about the previous years. I think Scott Arniel will do a fine job getting this team ready. My biggest concern is more about the health of Vilardi and Pionk being ready to go. If we can't get out of round one without them, I think that would be the biggest reason, not because of previous years.
