Do Avs still trade Rantanen if they know he ends up in Dallas?

Point still remains and unaddressed by you. Do you have a hockey opinion or do you just get a kick out of being pedantic on the internet.

Rants is an elite winger when he wants to be. He also doesn’t move his feet in the offensive zone and wasn’t playing to the fullest extent of his abilities. That had gone on for too long. He can be a truly dominant force in terms of driving play. That stopped. For $12M+/year that was too much especially because it hindered the team’s ability to gain more depth and the team was becoming unbalanced. I won’t dispute Rants’ talent. I think he will do well for the Stars and with the raise in the salary cap it’s a good move for their team. But don’t discount the observations of Avs forum posters. These are people that have followed Rants for a very long time, some before he was drafted, and they are giving you an honest, unvarnished insight into some of the downsides of his play. That doesn’t mean he’s not elite. He certainly is an elite asset. But you also have to find the right situation for a player. Look at Nuke. I don’t think Rants gift as a finisher and scoring winger was suited to the Canes’ system.

As for Rants being on the Stars now, so what? The Avs will have to face him on an ongoing basis just like they did with Staz, ROR and Duchene. It happens. I’m sure the Avs players will quickly adjust. Some fans get over the trade sooner than others. I’m thrilled with the Avs roster post-TDL compared to before.

I’d trade Rants again in a heartbeat even knowing he’d end up with the Stars. No big deal.

If the Avs and stars face each other in the playoffs, the Avs now have the dogs to shutdown Rantanen (Nelson and Coyle). Good response by Avs management.
Not sure the Avs have the "dogs" to shut down arguable the best forward lineup in the league. Dallas even before Rantanen was over 3.4 GPG which is 4th best in the league. Colorado was 10th in Goals allowed before Nelson and Coyle joined up.
