Look at them now. Not sure there is a single case for taking Dahlin ahead of Hughes. Luke Hughes looks like he can take the top spot, but seems a bit early to anoint as I thought Johnston would take it based on last year, so the jury is still out.
Dahlin would be with Quinn, not Luke. I said Johnson for 2021, not Johnston. I might have misunderstood your post, feel free to correct me.

I think Dahlin over Hughes is most definitely controversial and I say that as someone who thinks Hughes is the best dman in the league. I just think that someone with Dahlin's size, talent, pre-draft pedigree and playing in freaking Buffalo, there is still a LOT of potential with him. Dahlin can still be the best in the league imo, so that's why he could still be "drafted" first. Just my opinion.

I love Vlasic, but it seems crazy to put him as a contender for best player from the 2019 draft. Though I guess it's just as crazy about how bad that draft ended up.

Regarding the question at hand, both of the older Hughes' brothers have cemented themselves as best in their respective drafts. Luke has a chance, but it's too early to say with any confidence he's better than some of the other names on that list. And Owen Power has a chance to take back that #1 spot; defenders his size can take awhile before they make an impact in the NHL.

The only 1 that 100% goes 1st is the one that already did,
Quinn probably should too. But it's going to be a toss up between Dahlin and Him for most (imo I'd take Quinn)
Luke, Nah (at least not currently)

Did you really put Vlasic as a contended for #1? lol

Luke is the only one thats questionable.
I was vocal that I would have taken Luke at #1 if the Ducks wont the lottery, and I still feel the same.
He wouldn’t go number one but the list of people I’d take over Vlasic at this point in 2019 is not very big. Dude is one of the best defenders already

Luke is now leading the league in xGF% amongst defensemen.

It’s still early, and he’s not getting the toughest minutes on the team, but the track record of guys his age with high level 2 way metrics almost always leads to an elite player.

I wonder if Jack and Quinn were as good as they are now when he was drafted if it would have affected where he was picked.
This is a really good point - Quinn was coming off a lackluster sophomore year compared to his impressive rookie season, and Jack was still a teenager center struggling to pile up the big points.

Considering how Luke is almost a full year younger than Power, if teams had known the extent to which the Hughes brothers were late bloomers, Luke may very well have gone 1st originally.

Jack and Quinn are locks for sure. As for 2021, I’d narrowly take Johnston. But it’s super close and you can make an argument for Luke and or Power still.

Jack for sure, no one in his draft is close to him.
Quinn, Tkatchuk, and Dahlin are a coin flip for 1OA it would really depend on the team drafting.
Luke is in the top 3 with Power and Johnston but I don't see any team take him over Power.

Power’s easily the worst of the big 4 D

I can’t imagine any team taking Tkachuk over Quinn at this point. It’s top 15 winger vs top 15 player.
