Top 2018 contenders (Quinn's draft)
Rasmus Dahlin
Brady Tkachuk
Noah Dobson
Evan Bouchard

Top 2019 contenders (Jack's draft)
Matt Boldy
Moritz Seider
Alex Vlasic

Top 2021 contenders (Luke's draft)
Simon Edvinsson
Dyland Guenther
Wyatt Johnston
Owen Power
William Eklund
Kent Johnson
Matty Beniers
Mason McTavish
Brandt Clarke

I think they probably do, here are my thoughts on it:
  • Jack probably has the 1st in 2019 more or less locked down.
  • Quinn might have the most top end competition to beat out in 2018, but after his last 2 seasons, I think he's got to be the favorite.
  • For Luke, 2021 is still just starting to become regular NHLers Luke is handedly winning the poll vs the top 2021 dmen (Power, Edvinsson, Clarke), which may also make him the favorite. But there are a lot of guys who could legitimately still contend for the top spot, so it feels less certain than the other two.

Jack does for sure. Quinn probably does, though there might be some holdouts for Dahlin. Luke’s draft I think is too early to make any clear determinations yet, but he’s in the running. Johnston looked like he might be number 1 after his second half last year, but has had a disappointing start. A lot can change still.

Jack it's not even close. Quinn's really pulled away the last 2 years but there's at least some really elite players in Dahlin and Tkachuk. It's still early for 2021 but I would've taken 1 then and I still think he's the best player in the draft.

Jack and Quinn for sure. For 2021 I think I'd lean towards Guenther. The guy is improving rapidly and is a ppg player at age 21.

Jack and Quinn, no doubt.

Luke, right now, I'd say yes, but I'm biased. Give it two years and I don't think there will be a question, though. The jump this year is real.

I think Jack and Quinn have pulled away from their respective draft classes but Luke hasn't. He could go 1st but I wouldn't be shocked if any but not all of the players mentioned went before him.

Another interesting part of this experiment is that if Buffalo takes Quinn 1 in 2018 then I find it hard to believe you wouldn’t also take Luke 1 in 2021 if you’re the Sabres.

2018: I like Dahlin a lot and I think he could be the best dman in the league if he wasn't in Buffalo. Hard to choose between him and Hughes. I think Dahlin still goes #1 but barely.

2019: Seider is an animal and at his best is the most dominant player on the ice but I think it's still gotta be Jack at #1.

2021: My pre-draft was Johnson at 1 and Luke at 2 and I still feel perfectly comfortable with that. That 2021 crop looks great.

I think I’d take Guenther barely.

If I already have one Hughes though, I’m taking another Hughes for the novelty.

Yeah I agree, but I think Dahlin might be. Very hard to judge him in Buffalo, as was the case with many players before. Look at them now...
Look at them now. Not sure there is a single case for taking Dahlin ahead of Hughes. Luke Hughes looks like he can take the top spot, but seems a bit early to anoint as I thought Johnston would take it based on last year, so the jury is still out.

The team completely fell to pieces roughly a minute into the 3rd vs the Avs when Dahlin was injured and are right now far worse than the Nolan team literally designed to lose games.

I'm not a huge fan of redrafts because it's basically just a shot in time and not a great predictor of things going forward but I'll take a stab.

#1 is Quinn Hughes, who is the best of the 3 so far and it will probably end that way as well, just tilts the ice out there. I would take him in a redraft and barring a career ending injury I doubt that changes.

#2 has to be Jack but I think given his injury history in a angging sense I think Seider, who is less sexy, but also more solid and has the type of game that might age better than Jack.

#3 has to be Luke here as it's too early and some other forwards have done quite well and others are still rising.
