From an Oilers POV I'd pay a ton for him.

An all-round defenceman that can do everything at a high level is imo the biggest need on defence.

No the Capitals are about to trade all their actual talent so that they can keep the players that are anchors to keeping the team form contending like Backstrom, Oshie and Carlson.

Hathaway and Orlov need to be resigned all the above is where the Caps need to cut the fat.

The old guys are sucking and are untradeable, what do we do?

If the term is issue as is reported then he's propably looking at 6-7 years. I don't think the Capitals will have issue handing him 4-5 years. I doubt the salary would be an issue either, somewhere around ~6, depending on how many years.

If Ekholm is traded and Orlov hit's the UFA market I could see Nashville as a good fit. Especially if they sell high on Saros. There's probably a lot of value to having a veteran Russian defenseman on the team when they turn the reigns over to Askarov who has a 2.50 GAA and .913 SV% for Milwaukee in the AHL this year.

Weegar is probably his best recent UFA comparable and he got less than that while being 2.5yrs younger. Same with Parayko.

I just don't see it. I guess time will tell.

That's bad for the Capitals. You want them to eat half of Orlov's contract, along with taking on Barrie's contract which still has another year at 4.5 remaining, and include Eller as well. No way!

Orlov alone for 1st and Holloway, if Eller's included then a 2nd. Caps have to go 50% on Orlov's contract that's a 3rd.
