WC: Division 1A 2025., Sfantu Gheorghe 27.04 - 3.05.

They just repeated it again, I mean how is that not offside? It's not even close, I must be missing something because this is just mind-boggling. Judging from the fact that broadcasters keep repeating the episode they don't really get it either. Like, that was Duchene's infamous goal levels of offside.

Why have review anyway if the refs simply aren't going to reverse the call no matter how wrong it is? It's 2nd time in this tournament. And this one was way, way worse than the first. It's somewhat funny that both happened to benefit Italy.

Is anyone watching this? Wasn't the Italian forward offside by like 1,5 meters? I only glanced from afar but that's how it seemed to me?
Yeah it looked pretty clear offside to me, to the point that I started questioning myself.
There must be something more than what was shown because fit's impossible to understand how refs would not judge that offside

So Italy scores one more goal than they should, allows 1 less goal than they should and gets 4 minutes of powerplay out of it. I mean it's crazy, it's scandalous, I'm lost for words. Blown calls are one thing but this is a freaking video review...

Italy look to be 1-1-3 NZ and using their size and wingspan to hold the blueline.

Poland are struggling to create anything.

A very strange tournament so far. The real competition starts now for GB, hopefully they show up for the 'big games'. Kirk did look very good today, but no change in outcome.

I think the big change is in defence, with Davey Phillips & Evan Mosey retiring and Sam Ruopp & Sam Jones not participating. An increased role for Mark Richardson - who should probably have been on that retirement list before the two who actually retired - and an overall reduction in quality appears to be showing.

I think the quality is still there to get the wins required for promotion - but to this point it has probably been the most disappointing World Championship performance since 2016.

Italy was very successful at neutralizing whatever Poland threw at them, any play off the boards was quickly put down by the Italians. The tying goal was strange, I thought it was offside but maybe the refs had an angle we didn't? I don't know.

Looks like Poland needs 5 points from next two games to still be in contention for promotion, since GB loves OT games maybe 2 points from them there and straight 3 from Ukraine, but to be honest this has Poland 3rd place tourney written all over it at this point.

There's actually a set of results that would allow GB to win all 5 games and finish third.

GB defeat both Italy & Poland in OT. Italy defeat Romania in regulation. Ukraine win their last 3 games, at least two in regulation.

I don't know why are you so pessimistic. Based on their play Italy is by far the strongest team in the tournament. Poland losing to them only becomes an issue if GB will somehow rise like a phoenix and manage to beat them. If not, which is by far the most likely outcome, Poles will still be in the driving seat before the head to head game against GB where even 1 point might be enough for them. I don't see how anything is written at all.

GB didn't play a single good game in the tournament, if anyone should be preparing themselves for the worst, it's them.

Well, 3-0 approx 10 mins in for Ukraine over Romania. Zakharov with his 3rd and a selfish effort by Lyalka that worked out this time. Seems like this tourney is still wide open if this game continues how it has started.

Sure it's possible, but this Poland team doesn't have the depth of last years team. Having played the bottom two teams in the first two games is a detriment for this team. I doubt Poland will be able to match GB's physicality in that last game. Then judging from pre-tourney exhibition games vs. Ukraine where both games went into OT, it will also be ultra tight.
I actually expected Poland to play better vs Italy and maybe get a point out of it.

I mean this game is just the further evidence. Ukraine pretty much wins the game against Romania in 10 minutes, as they should, while GB labored for 60+ minutes against them.
But, also evidence that Ukraine are part of a four horse race. And GB found a way to win against them, where Italy didn't. Will GB continue to find ways to win against Italy & Poland? It wouldn't surprise me with this team.

Similar story to the Japan and Ukraine games, GB outshot in the first period but clinical execution sees them with the lead, and for the third time so far they find themselves 2-0 up, but will they hold it?

And GB's first attack of the period is a goal! The link-up between Kirk and Perlini is really cooking; that's also the cue for Clara to come in for Fadani, was a bit of a surprise to most that he wasn't first choice in the first place for the Italians...

I must say that these refs with glasses are.... dare I say competent? Make them all were them!

Duggan makes it 4-0 after Shudra robs Purdeller behind the net, Jalonen challenges more out of desperation than anything rational. Not to tempt fate too much but Italy look like they're melting down here.

4 goals on 10 shots also raises eyebrows. Kirk winning scoring title in just 3 games?

Bowns at last lets one slip under him, Misley with the finish after an extended period of possession for Italy, if they scan score again before the end of the period it'll be a game again, GB have been finishing games strongly but the psychology would be all different at 4-2.

They should just end the period and play it out after the break while they fix the glass. It won't be quick I imagine.

Comical ending to the game, Italy pull the goalie with just over 3 minutes to ago and it takes about 5 seconds for Larkin to give away a penalty and effectively kill the game. Kostner also goes off to give GB about 20 seconds of 5-on-3, O'Connor scores for his team's first PP goal of the tournament.

Story of the period though was GB looking to shut down the game but relying on some big saves from Bowns to deny Tedesco and Ierullo, have to say it's a deserved win for GB, as well as being clinical upfront they've used their strength well in the neutral zone and disrupted Italy's gameplan, even if 5-1 makes the win seem more handsome than it really was.

Huge game coming up, I've been really impressed by Ukraine this tournament and hope they keep their promotion push alive, they might not get a better opportunity any time soon; this Polish team is there for the taking imo.

Well, end of a close 1st period. Neither team had any great chances, but Poland had the better period probably. Think this one will be a nail-biter, still hoping for the best.

I really don't understand what is going through Jalonen's mind, riding one goaltender. Fadani's 4th game in 5 days. Predictable result.
