Interesting development has occurred with Disney buying 21st Century Fox including Fox Sports, but excluding Fox News and Fox Business.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...at-its-financial-woes/?utm_term=.26359bee51dd

"But buried within the release is the announcement that Disney will be acquiring Fox Sports Regional Networks, a collection of cable channels that are broadcast to local subscribers across the country. (Fox Sports, the FS1 and FS2 networks and the Big Ten Network will remain with Fox.) Assuming the deal passes federal antitrust muster, this portion of the pact could have a seismic impact on Disney-owned ESPN, rearranging a business model that until recently was thought to be the cause of the network’s well-documented financial problems.

ESPN will be acquiring a massive amount of new content, as Fox Sports’ 22 regional sports networks (RSNs from here on out) control the local cable rights to the following professional teams:

NBA (17): Suns, Hornets, Pistons, Magic, Pacers, Pelicans, Timberwolves, Cavaliers, Thunder, Hawks, Grizzlies, Mavericks, Spurs, Heat, Clippers, Bucks, Nets.

MLB (15): Diamondbacks, Tigers, Rays, Royals, Cardinals, Twins, Reds, Padres, Braves, Rangers, Marlins, Angels, Brewers, Indians, Yankees.

NHL (12): Coyotes, Hurricanes, Red Wings, Panthers, Blues, Wild, Blue Jackets, Predators, Stars, Lightning, Kings, Ducks.

That doesn’t even include college football and basketball, plus Major League Soccer and the WNBA.
Let’s put it another way: The total price tag of the Disney-Fox deal is estimated to be $52.4 billion."

The Yankees don't want their content owned by Disney.

"It amounts to “a foregone conclusion” the Bronx Bombers will exercise their right of first refusal to buy the 80 percent of YES they don’t own, according to a source familiar with the talks.
“They plan to own all 100 percent,” the source said, “and they’re already talking to strategic and financial parties about divvying up ownership again — much like the current relationship with Fox.”

Probably don't want Tinkerbell sprinkling fairy dust on their players. However, that sounds like a perfectly fine idea for many of the Kings players.

I'm dumb. What does this mean in the grand scheme of things in terms of LA Kings being available? What is the expected outcome?

The rich get richer.
I dunno Disney has been losing their ass on ESPN. This is an acquisition to gain more content which isn't the ESPN talking heads spewing their political opinions during a sports highlights show.

Disney could screw this up if they don't keep the politics out of sports.

I see it as a way to protect their ESPN business. For all the cord cutters that want their local teams (ex Kings, Ducks, Angels etc) Disney can now force people to picking a package with ESPN and regionals.

ESPN is pretty good on live sports, because they have to focus on the games and not their political nonsense. I seriously doubt much changes as far as the Kings go. They'll probably just rename it the "ESPN LA" and leave it alone.

You might be right (ish)
Disney wants their own package like Hulu or Youtube tv. They mostly wanted Fox entertainment channels and movies. They now have all the Disney stuff, most of the Marvel stuff, Star Wars, Pixar , ABC and many more things. They have to know that sports fans are not going to change the family TV if they don’t have a strong sports presence. ESPN is not it. However, I might subscribe to a Disney package if I can stream the Kings, angels , and some other teams

I think you probably have hit on the model Disney will consider quite strongly.

It all comes down to the price. If they bundle too much into it (ESPN, regional, Disney, etc), it will cost a lot. If they don’t allow consumers to pick parts of the overall package, they’re back at square one- which is why people are cutting their cords in the first place.

Anything over $5/mo for Kings games, I’m out. I’ll subscribe at that price just for the hockey season (Oct-Apr).

Monopolization levels : INCREASING
Definitely going to be interesting to see if the tide changes on this point. Both political parties seem to have an appetite for breaking up companies like Google and Facebook.

Yeah I know. Even though I think a lot of these huges corporations seem to dodge anti trust laws.

Though no body gets screwed when both parties get their pockets stuffed by companies

True, at a minimum I think we are going to see more regulations on these social media companies. I don't think users of these "services" are smart enough to know they are the product these companies are profiting from when they hand over their personal information and data to them. I kind of got pissed when I got a report every month from Google on my gmail telling me everywhere I had been over the course of the last month. Now the GPS on my phone is turned off unless I truly need it.

That's bizarre. Did you request the information or what? I don't get a said report, but obviously everyone knows that these social media giants will listen in on you which is why you see Facebook ads about products that you haven't searched for and videos on YouTube that are related to something you checked on Amazon.

The real product of these giants are the people who use their platform.

These companies have gotten so large and rich that they can do anything they want without consequence really.

I don't support Alex Jones but the way they all deplatformed him with coordination was truly disgusting. Goes to show how everyone is in each other's pockets.

These "politicians" will sell you a great story how they will do A,B,C and D all to get a nice fat check.

In the grand scheme of things I am for less regulations on small businesses so they can compete with the big boys. But I am for a deeper look into these giants because they have no regulations at all when small businesses have to go through many hoops to even profit.

Well, you lost me here. What’s “disgusting” about removing someone like Alex Jones? These companies have no obligation to allow him to spread his garbage on their platform.
