Weather is a pretty big factor, as DirecTV is satellite and FiOS is fiber optic cable.

This is the biggest fallacy of the industry. If your dish is positioned correctly, it should almost never go out.

ie: I did not lose signal during Sandy. Storm came in at 3pm, and the power went out at 11 while I was watching the news.

Fios is Verizon, who is the Devil, so......yeah

As I already said, mine was not. So that's probably why I was having issues.

Verizon is on option if you're looking to stay on the cheap, or if you just watch the Rangers. But if you want other sports, the NFL, a great DVR, the best NHL Center Ice package, etc., and are willing to pay for it, DirecTV is the way to go.

Fios doesn't seem to be a very soccer or sports friendly provider . Actually their HD channel lineup is severely lacking compared to other providers. DTV offer so much more in terms of sports, no everything, all UCL matches, premier league extra time, NFL sunday ticket, NHL center ice etc. I asked around and people where I live almost never lose signal. It's a tad more expensive per month but for me the wider variety of channels available on DTV is worth it, I could understand if it isn't if you're on a tighter budget. I packaged the fios internet with it though so I guess in a way I'm subscribed to both?

DirecTV is, but only because of the weather.

When I had DirecTV, I loved it, but snow is the absolute worst. No matter what anyone from DirecTV says, bad weather is a problem for your reception.

I'll take Cablevision (now technically "Optimum") over DirecTV any day of the week.

I guess it depends where you are. I've had DirecTV the past two years or so and the only outages I had were Irene and this year for a little while when we had really bad storms and that only lasted for maybe an hour.

I've had all 3 services and quite honestly DirecTV and FIOS are both awesome. DirecTV has a better Center Ice HD setup but with Fios you can get all 3 services. But you can bundle DirectTV with Fios Internet I believe. You need to check on their site.

They are both way better options than crappy Cablevision.
