Differences in the way the team plays under the new coaching staff compared to the previous regime?

Lol….
Chipman was so proud of Paul’s tenure, what are his priorities?
Half of HF knew this about Maurice years ago and the other half either vilified those posters or quit the board when there was push back.
That’s not revisionist history either.
This sucks for Maurice too. If he would have left at an appropriate time, I think fans would have liked on his tenure far more fondly

Yup, had they moved on after 2019 like they should have he would be seen in a much more positive light. He did a lot of good for the team his first 5 years here but coaches have shelf life's and I hope Chipman learned that it doesn't matter if he believes coaches don't have them, all that matters is how the players are responding to the coach.

Fun fact. Ppl here love Maurice. Hfboards is the vocal minority. Talk to the random non hfboards poster and they all love the guy still. Sometimes the 40 ppl who consistently post here and think they represent the average Jets fan needs to understand that they don't.

Ppl don't care about the fancy stats, they don't care about the behind the scenes stuff, they just watch the game cuz 1. Nothing else on and 2. Because that team represents where they live.

The majority don't care about the stuff that the less than 50 ppl on here do. It's not like there's thousand of posters on here, there's 50 probably. Vocal minority

I personally never hated the guy ….actually most don’t here either.
I do believe like many he should have been let go after 2019.
How embarrassing for the organization that he had to fire himself.
Makes you wonder how this organization evaluated the on ice product the last 3 seasons it boggles the mind.

That boggles my mind :sarcasm:
What boggles my mind is that PoMo took this team from mediocrity to being viewed by many as Stanley Cup contenders and created the most excitement around here that this team has ever seen........until multiple adversity hit, all along trying to get this team to play more defensively. Lets hope the new cat can do as well........oh look their playing defensively now!

I think Maurice did everything right, including leaving the team when he noticed it wasn't working anymore. It's the front office that shouldn't have extended his contract; it's not on Maurice for accepting it and it was a bold statement from him to leave the team. He's a class act and a great coach in my mind.

Yeah, and he did it all with style and grace coming close to popping a vein on just a couple of occasions. He also ran the system we are employing now a few times as well. We called them a pack of wolves then......but saw too much turnovers we couldn't handle so it was dropped.

Absolutely a class act.
Great coach no, good coach for the first 4 seasons.
Front office is to blame I agree.
This team has not been entertaining the last 3 seasons so hopefully that changes.

Can’t say I was overly impressed with Bowness’s line match ups at home tonight. I will give him a long leash as it is game 1 for him but looks like he really needs to figure out what he has on the ice.

Agreed but he seemed to learn and he switched the Mathews assignment to Dubois line later in the game and that had a positive effect.

What I am curious about is what use the third line will have on this team if they can't be counted on to hard match and suppress. They bring no offense and given Lowry's history I don't expect them to.

Matchups are tough for the Jets. The coach can't have the #1 line out against the top lines in the league because they are weak defensively (my calculus may be off but has Scheifele been on the ice for 8 the Jet's 15 GA?) The top line is currently anemic offensively (4 combined goals, 1 more than Neil Pionk) so you are counting on the 2nd line for offense against the other team's 2nd or 3rd lines. That leaves the 3rd and 4th line to go against the top lines in the league.

Other than wheeler being demoted would anything on this roster really be anything different if Maurice was coach :dunno:

Merely 5 games but poor defensively, poor pk, 1 line buzzing, and 4th line that barely plays at 5v5.

scheif already a -5 after 5 games. Bones has been all talk so far.... meanwhile dallas is off to a great start to the season. Literally no one had Bowness on the radar as the next jets coach.....this is 100% on chevy if bowness turns out to be a dud....early signs point to no real upgrade in coaching.

Bowness may need to revamp the lines. Scheifele has scored 3 goals and is -5 which means he has been on the ice for 8 of 15 GA. He doesn't PK so that is not performance. Connor has 2 points and is at -4 which means he has been on the ice for 6 of 15 GA. It's only the first 5 games and against top teams but these are our #1 guys The Jets are going nowhere if this continues.

I think that’s what many of us were afraid of, time will tell.

how long is a reasonable time for new systems to be implemented? I think it’s a bit unfair to judge the current results after such a short transition period
Right, and especially if a more aggressive 2-way system requires more skating..
That requires the whole fwd group (and D) to perform at a higher cardio expenditure.. What I would like to know, from anyone scrutinizing the training sessions, is..”Is this happening at all?”
