Differences in the way the team plays under the new coaching staff compared to the previous regime?

This has been discussed among other threads, but thought it would make sense to have it in one discussion.
It's only been a few pre-season games, but are there any differences in the way the team plays under the new coaching staff compared to the old regime?

Yeah I'd say so far Bowness isn't afraid to give players a chance, try things out, and accepts that mistakes are a part of hockey. We will see how that plays out when the games matter. He's also not afraid to call shit out in a firm but respectful way.

As for on ice play the team also looks a lot more cohesive. You could still see the players doing some Maurice shit when we were getting pinned, and there's likely a bit of hesitation in execution as players have to actively think about what they should be doing, but that should fade as they play more and get reprogrammed.

I could see our entire defense have much better years as this new set of systems play to our strengths. Especially guys like Stanley and Dillon should benefit as they won't have to rely on speed, but positioning of them and their teammates.

Not sure how much to draw from pre season when it's alot of AHL opponents and some vets merely going through the motions.

Im far more concerned about how the top 9fwds and top 4d scores and defends as opposed to the 3ld spot. I did like what I heard about Bowness on heinola following his game last night, but given that the small magnitude or significance of it being a pre season game, I am not sure if he'd have the same leniency during the regular season.

Agree, but one of the things I'm enjoying thus far is that what Bowness does seems to have some connection to what he's said, and I expect that the players appreciate that also.

One of last season's bizarro world lowlights for me was the Lowry remarks when demoting Ville as he was starting to round up into form that he was "playing too well" and therefore needed sending down: "[He] was playing good hockey and we want to make sure that he continues playing good hockey.”

Who knows wth was actually going on, and Big Dave was a brutal HC, but it struck me as a very odd way of sending a message.

So here's to Bones so far!

Coaching the game its been night and day

Really preaching short 45 second shift time
Overload the puck side in the O zone to retrieve it and then working it back to the point
Strong side D is pressuring hard when they can. Weak side forward is going back
Activating the D all over the ice. Jumping into the rush, heading deep into the O zone
PP is an umbrella and the puck movement is a triangle. Lots of good chances early from it so far
Playing a tight box in the D zone with an emphasis on blocking shots and forcing shooters to move and shoot. Really trying to limit slot chances

Doing all the above isn't without its issues early. Will lead to odd man rushes and mistakes on the ice. I think we have out shot all the teams we played in the pre season. You can see what they are trying to do its just a matter of execution now.

Yup our systems are a breath of fresh air from the past few seasons. But as you mentioned still alot of work to do to iron them out and get them ingrained. I expect it will still be a work in progress until game 10-20 this year.

Also real nice to have a couple of highly skilled youngsters really push for spots and roles. It brings back the circa 15-18 vibe and excitement. Even if I think we need to temper expectations a bit due to it being preseason it's nice to have this type of skill being developed in the system.

Yeah it's nice to hear again, pre season though. Let's see if he keeps that same sort of the leash if a player does that in January for instance

I was fully expecting Heinola to be stapled to the bench after his gaffe. Really liking Bones!
I like how he gave Stanley another chance after his 14 gaffes this preseason, lol.

No, seriously, the string bean clearly has confidence issues this preseason and Bones knows how to nurture a player in such a situation. He still may start the season in the press box (that's my bet right now), but I think he's gonna be alright in the long term.

At this point, I'd elevate Perfetti above being a youngster pushing for a spot, and write him in as a top six forward (possibly top three before the season is over) and a regular on the power player. As far as Lambert is concerned... it's a matter of where he ends up playing (junior or Moose) to start the season. However, if he starts with the Moose I'd expect to see him at some point during the regular season as well. But I don't want to put too much pressure on him cuz he's still 18 and he hasn't faced a regular season ready line up yet.

Pretty much this. The only thing I would add is Bones makes in-game, time appropriate adjustments with the lineup. Historically it would be more of a tactical aberration for the previous regime to do it.

Please Understand
They are totally going to miss the playoffs
I'm very interested in how they do this season. Going from Quenneville and his systems to Paul Maurice and his systems, while going laterally on forward skill, downgrading on defense, and having a worse goaltender than Hellebuyck. This will be a glorious amount of theatre.

The forwards defiantly got worse, Duclair is probably missing the entire season, that’s 30+ goals there. Plus they had something like 11 players had career years last season, he odds of that happening again are slim to non , most of them will probably fall back closer to their career averages.

With or without Maurice Florida wasn’t going to come close to replicating last season.

The one thing I noticed in the last game is the Jets attempting to score on the 3-on-3 OT.

After about 40 seconds, if they were unsuccessful, they would maintain puck possession and start making a player change.

Oh Perfetti made this team last year. I was more talking Heinola amd Lambert creating some buzz.

But even in Cole's situation it's exciting to see how much his game grows over the year and if he gets reps at center if there is an injury.

This org has needed a talent infusion to help our established core and it looks like some of that talent should be ready to help this year and the next few.

Is there any signal from the bench concerning line changes?

The Panthers are "F'ed" under this "new guy". Sure glad he isn't anywhere near working for the Jets! Hee, at hee, hee...Tkachuk is going to rag-doll this clown who "talks" like he has a clue, in the media, if Maurice ever disses him or cuts his icetime, role. On the bench, dressing room, in practice he is confusing and clueless!
