Differences in Graf skates

I was curious if anyone could help me with Graf skates. I notice they come out with usually 3 or 4 different models each year which all have the same price. There has to be a difference between them, my guess is a mix between agility and power skating, and a range between them. Can anyone help diversify between them? I'm looking into the G3, G5, G9, and G35. Also the 703, 705, 709, and 707. Thanks in advance for the help.

Hi,
I probably won't help you much, but here are my 2 cents:

I used to get 1 pair Grafs for free per season until ten years ago. I skated on 703,707,709.
Not much other high-end models around at that time.

All I can say is that you have to try them on the ice!

I loved the 703 and especially the 709. The 707 was impossible for me to skate with. I really don't know why. Gave them away for free after 10 days. It just didn't feel right. It either felt too loose or too tight. Some team mates loved the 707 and just couldn't understand why I had problems with them.

I would highly recommend against buying Grafs online though. You may think you have a wide/narrow heel/forefoot and get it wrong. I've seen it before.

How did you fit into the 03 AND the 09? Either the 03 was WAY too narrow or the 09 was WAY too wide. The 07 is not a stiff skate.

I am 40. Always played with Grafs (Models Can1000, CAN3000 when I was a youngster, and also the plastic black ones (not Graf Attack, but similar to the black/grey plastic Microns which I also used and loved)).
At age 23 I would get Grafs for free. I had 703s first, 709 did not exist yet. Then tried 707, back to 703. When the 709 came out, it fit perfectly. There were different width. Regular (was it D?) on 709 were perfect. Never used the plastic insert though.
I cannot explain why 707 did not work for me. I lacked freedom of movement, just didn't feel balanced on them.

As said, other player's loved them. All I say, try before you buy...

Maybe it's all different nowadays...? I don't get skates for free anymore and had a pair of Bauer Vapor 10 for the last 5 years.

Its the difference in fit. Each model fits a different type of foot. Like another poster said its best to go to your LHS and get fitted correctly.

The difference is how the boot is shaped.

703 - narrower than even Nike Bauer skates. A bit deeper.
705 - deeper, a bit wider than 703
709 - "cankle skates". Very wide at the heel and VERY deep.
735 - "Graf for beginners", not as pitched forward. Narrower at the heel for guys with duck-feet.

G3, G5, etc = 703, 705 with composite material.

G5 very low cut deepish, wide forefoot narrow heel, light. G9 very deep, higher cut and heavy.
