Did they make a mistake with Murray.

As I see more every game, I think the blue jackets made a mistake with having Ryan Murray on the opening day roster. I see him very overmatched against some of the stronger forwards. Yes, his high IQ has shown on the ice, but, I think it's too late to send him to Springfield because now they have commit to him. He only has 4 points in over 20 games. I think that he is really good defensively and offensively, but I think there were better options than having him on the opening day roster

With all the things that have gone wrong this year, having Murray playing is one of the things gone right.

No offense, but are you even watching the games?
Yes about 7 or 8 when it is on nhl or national broadcasted because I am from New England and I am mainly a Bruins fan.

Speaking of bruins here are some stats/comparisons:
Torey Krug and matt bartkowski both rookies and same as ryan Murray.

Krug....... 14 points in 23 games
Bartkowski..........5 points in 11 games

Murray is improving game by game it seems. His offense will come. He is one of those steady eddies on the blueline. He will have a tremendous and very long career, imo.

The Bruins also have much more skill than the Jackets. I think that might come in to play a little.

Murray has been the Jackets best defensemen. If you're measuring defensive quality by points, you're doing it wrong. The only way to adequately gauge defensive ability is by watching the games.

Um..not even sure where to start with this one.

Murray has been amazing. I have no idea how you could come to these conclusions. Are you seeing the games or just looking at box scores?

I could care less about points. Points will come in time. For now he's been probably the best defenseman, second best at worst, in nearly every game. I'm surprised at this, because I was part of the 'let Murray develop in the A' camp, but I couldn't feel more satisfied at the way he's started his career.

What he said.

Also, FYI, Krug is 2.5 years older. When he was Murray's age, he was finishing up his second year at MSU. Bartkowski is a little over 3 years older. When he was Murray's age, he was starting his first year at OSU. Really tough comparison, but IMO, it accentuates how good Murray has been.

You mean to tell me that players on a team that's currently in first place in the conference have better stats than players on a team near the bottom of the league?

Color me shocked! :amazed:

Edit: Man did Murray look crappy scoring that PP goal just now! :sarcasm:

Edit - Murray is having an outstanding game right now. And that isn't because he just scored a powerplay goal. :sarcasm:

No no guys, it's a Bruins fan ... remember, they are at the center of the universe ... everyone else revolves around them, and totally sucks. Especially the "Ranguhs".

I can't decide if OP is serious or that's some kind of trolling.

Wait... I haven't realized that he's a Falcons fan. Having Murray on the Falcons would be something to remember for years. That's the explanation.

When I read the title I thought this was gonna be about the Oilers. However, I do remember the 1st couple weeks a lot of you wanted to send him down.

He's a Springy fan who has watched 7-8 games. And he's right about the point totals (excluding tonight) and the fact that Murray isn't dominant physically. That said, I don't think point totals and physical prowess is sufficient to measure Murray.

Instead it's his decision making, how amazingly fast he is adapting to the NHL, and how he doesn't make many mistakes something which we all wish other defensemen (cough, Johnson-Tyutin-Wisniewski-Nikitin) could accomplish.

That said, if I were an AHL fan and my franchise had a rookie 2nd overall who was AHL eligible, I'd want to see some of him too.

I'm curious why you think he is struggling? Because he has 4 points? So does that mean Adam McQuaid should be in Providence with his 3 points? How many points does Dennis Seidenberg have in 23 games?

We are truly sorry you didn't get to see Murray for $5.00 a game. No wonder you're disappointed.

You're right about OP being a Falcons fan, I've already edited my post. Honestly, there's no reason to look at Murray's points at all. Some elite forwards had less points than Murray during their 1st NHL season. Joe Thornton for example. And Scott Niedermayer has never been physical.

Tom - Murray's been just fine. Despite his point total, he plays like he belongs, and at times has been the team's best blueliner.

And bad timing on the thread, man.:)
