Did the Oilers give away Kesselring for nothing?

I love hindsight threads. My guess is 95% of the posters had never heard of him when this trade happened. Taken in the 6th round 164th overall and read some of the posts in this thread it is like he was a top 10 pick they traded away

This is a standard “player that gets tossed into rental trade”. Sometimes they hit. He’s playing for a team that had plenty of room for young dmen to get some playing time, no? Few teams may have even given this guy time to develop.

My lord people want to bag on the Oilers for anything they can think of as often as they can think of it.

Because the franchise hasn't done anything smart since trading Eric Brewer for Chris Pronger almost twenty years ago. As a former fan of the franchise and current fan of the league, it's both fascinating and disgusting to watch and comment on.

If none oiler fans want to have fun? Take a look at all their natural draft picks they gave away for nothing. Like trade a 2nd and 4th to Arizona for taking Zack Kassian. Or the 2 2nds they traded for Athenansaio from the wings. Or the player and the pick they traded for Mike Green?

Oilers are now well into double digits for trade away picks in the first 4 rounds and having nothing to show for
I am a fan of the oilers and habs but even my habs have taken them to the woodshed a couple times

Jeff petry for a second that didn’t hit and while he’s been an effective part of their team for a few years kulak was traded for the pick that was used to select hutson.

And while broberg is looking to be a good nhler and the offersheets are neither here nor there at this point passing on caufield for him was and still probably is a miss that benefits Montreal

I think this is a guy Utah / Arizona's pro scouting staff wanted, he checks more than one box with his size, skating ability, and shot. This wasn't just some throw in player, and if you watched him in the AHL before the trade you would have noticed that. He had 13 goals in 49 games in the AHL the same year he was traded. That is solid for a D-man.

Never heard of him, but after seeing his skating ability and the size he possessed, I was shocked the Oil would throw this guy away.

The Oilers really gave up on all those guys so they could make worthless deadline moves... that's a championship caliber defense IMO.
ya so that is a D crew you can win with...the oilers made a huge mistake riding themselves of so much youth in recent years transations.

There were a few of us on HFOil who were excited about him each year.

I mean, it sucks that he's figuring it out somewhere else, but I'm really not that upset by it. Longshot project prospect traded in deadline deal for rental for Cup run where they got to Game 7 of the finals. Couple more goals and nobody would ever have cared that he was in the deal.

We're also used to seeing good youth go elsewhere, so maybe I'm just numb to it. Spilled milk I guess.

All you jag offs bashing the oilers for this move

PLEASE POST YOUR POST FROM THE ORIGINAL TRADE THREAD.

You f***ers had no idea who or what he was when the trade happened

If you’re saying oilers management is about as competent as the average HFer- agreed. That’s not the win you think it is.

The player that gets tossed into a rental trade is always someone the team that gets him wanted. There was a list probably and they chose him from the list.

Is your position then, that the Oilers front office is as dumb as the average HF poster?

ALL YOU JAG OFFS BASHING THE OILERS?

PLEASE POST YOUR COMMENTS WHEN THE TRADE HAPPENED!

6 OR 7 OILER FANS CALLED IT A BAD DEAL WHEN HAPPENED!

for those with hindsight?

Walk into your local off track betting shop and tell them you knew all the horses who won yesterday were going to win and that you were going to place £199 on each race. I assume they will pay out using your logic

It was another bad move. Oilers are bad at developing talent. Simple as that. Bro is gone, Hollo is gone. Yak and JP were disasters for us. Yam is on a 2 way contract. It just goes on and on. I''ve been saying for years that our pro scouting sucks. We lost a lot of trades. Even this year... Ceci is gone (I wanted him replaced with a better player) and we have Stecher and Emberson who are both worse than Ceci. We also haven't had a legit top 4 since 2016. Every year we are all typing 'need another D man'. Including this one.lol

Bump. This trade is looking bad for the Oil. This guy is playing top pairing minutes right now, and has been off to a hot start this year. This is a guy who would fit in great as a 2nd pair right handed shot on the Oil. Kenny Holland got bent over the wood shed on this deal...

Every team has these though. It's a credit to the player and the new organization that he's blossomed but every single team has someone they let go or dealt who stepped up later. It's the nature of futures deals.

I don't think it's unreasonable to expect more out of people being paid millions of dollars to run a team than can be gotten from Hfboards randos

and all the caps locking in the world won't change that

yeah, hot start.

means nothing as the season goes on if he drops off.

this forum loves its small sample sizes.
