Did NYR blow it not promoting Knoblauch?

i wanted the Rangers to hire Knoblauch last offseason but I don't really think there'd be much difference. he's a good coach but he's not some kind of genius. i think Laviolette has squeezed the absolute maximum out of this roster this season.

Knoblauch did better as a Covid replacement under Quinn then when he took over for Gallant two years ago. And it's largely the same bunch.

Edmonton's success is mainly due to McDavid, Draisatl, hyman, bouchard, etc. If you suck for as long as they did, you are going to hit on your draft picks. Problem with the Rangers is they are always picking mid to late in each round.

We had our chance. We signed Panarin and Trouba to be those guys instead of staying patient. We’ll see how that works out but it’s not looking great thus far.

I don't see how anyone can question what Lavi has done this year. Are there decisions I question or disagree with, sure. But that he got this team, which has two absolute albatrosses on defense, to 2 wins within a cup final speaks for itself.

Knoblach would at best have done the same, and in all likelihood probably would have done worse.

lol that was like 3 games. he was just a stand in. my cat would be a better coach than david quinn.

It’s possible, but I like what Lavi has done.

There are just certain holes and flaws in this team that are keeping it from getting over the hump.

People said this about Lav taking over the Rangers and honestly I don’t see much difference from what we saw two years ago against Tampa. Too much hypothetical for me, but I get why people feel that way. Edmonton has strong analytics even before Knob.

Tampa was an extremely talented team that could play the game in many different ways. They arguably had 4 HOF guys better than ours.

the success he's had building Edm into a defensive powerhouse over 70 games after a midseason start is unreal. Could very well win a cup.

The Rangers had this guy in their system, working with their young players, and had an opening at HC this year..
