All that out of Binnington making a few clutch saves :sarcasm:

Better team won. Canada carried the play for longer stretches abd had better scoring chances. Binnington was clutch in OT but if we're playing your hypothetical game of 'what ifs', then the U.S is lucky the game reached overtime in the first place. If that last sentence sounded preposterous to you just remember it's the same cope logic you're using.

Take it easy, bud. There’s no “cope logic”. The US lost a closely contested game in OT. All I’m saying is if Binnington lets Matthew’s or Tkachuk’s shot past him in OT that the “experience and maturity” narrative today is totally different. Enjoy your team’s victory, it was well earned. I’m looking forward to watching the next full on best vs best matchup, this one was a blast.

You just doubled down on your coping with the bolded.

Experience and maturity between these two teams was definitely a contributing factor in the outcome. Compare age and Stanley Cups between the two.

Hear you on the Olympics next year. This was such a great tournament to get everyone amped up.

LoL, What’s with your infatuation with saying I’m “coping”, as if I’m emotionally distraught over my team losing a tournament championship game? Is it just some weird attempt at “flexing” over Canada winning? :dunno: oh well
Congratulations again to team Canada, that was a good show.

Did more than Matthews all tournament.
ugh is all I can say.

Depends, did they get injured in that game and no one else can fill their post so they just battle through it, or did they get hurt in a different game and are blocking a player who is nearly as good as they are when healthy?

Now, I don't know if he was selfish or not. If the coaching staff and medical staff told him to go and he did, that's at least as much on them as him, if not more.
Stupid and selfish when you cannot stickhandle or shoot and say "You can play."

He shouldn’t have played, but the staff made the decision to dress him. He’s a proud athlete who will give what he can even if it’s not much due to injury.

My question is why did they play Kreider over Connor, especially if Kreider wasn’t going to play much?
Ridiculous decision to take out Connor's speed and offense and pace.

Well you started this exchange with a snarky/cheeky response, sir. And your following replies you just keep making excuses for why Canada won. Your tone is 'well played Canada, you definitely got lucky'. It's transparent and annoying and frankly no Canadian wants your fake congratulations when the undertone is massive denial.

So many crazy L takes in here.

  • Matthews had a great game and could've won it, but he should've been way more aggressive to take the lane or the man on the final play (whether Fox chased or not, you have to cover McDavid in the slot). But he had a great game, you can blame him on that play but overall he was a big asset for USA in the game
  • Missing McAvoy (especially with how he played in the previous Canada/US game) and missing Quinn Hughes absolutely factored in. The US could've used someone that can dictate play like that and manipulate defenses to get guys open. Canada has several guys who do that (4 of them on their powerplay....) but the US doesn't have as much of that on the team. The idea that Hughes would've made no difference is crazy to me (and some posts I won't quote are just... they must be satire or I worry for the poster).
  • The 3 Dmen that Canada were missing don't bring elements that Canada doesn't have the way McAvoy and Hughes would for the US. Mackinnon, McDavid, Crosby etc etc all dictate play and are high possession guys. Sure we'd have been even better with all 3 and a healthy Makar but QH especially would've brought an element that US needs more of.
  • As is usually the case it came down to clutch moments. Bennington made the otherworldly saves on Canada's breakdowns and McDavid picked his spot on USAs breakdown. Epic game, my country won and I am hyped (glad Gretzky's buddy didnt get their win...thatd have been insufferable) but the USA could've easily won that game. The game was on their stick several times but they weren't more clutch than Binnington in OT (hats off to him I wanted Hill in).

"effing" banged up

Canadian defense

Makar toews
Piteranglo Theodore
Morrissey paraynko

Yeah so basically 4 out of 6 starting dmen didn't play or recovering. Give it a rest.
Makar played last night so its 3 out of 6. USA had its #1RD and #1LD out.

And USA was missing a Hart candidate. Prove to me that Theodore, Pietrangelo, and Morrissey are better than Hughes.

No, this is four nations out of 8-12 with no Russia. Math counts in the real world.
They were missing their #1RD (McAvoy) and #1LD (Hughes). Definitely more impactful than Theodore, Morrissey and 35 year old AP.

The Tkachuk's are great for theatrics and it was really perfect for growing interest in this tournament and game for the US. But the US team blew their load early in the tournament and when the chips are down the experience and maturity of the Canadian team showed up when it mattered most.

There is no blowing your load early in a competition that is structured like this.

There are 3 games for each team. Everything is must win. That would be like saying a team blew their load by playing really hard in the first game of the Stanley Cup final.

The reality is that Canada was very close to not making the final. Every game in the tournament ended by 1 goal, or in the case of Finland/Canada, 1 goal+1 empty netter. It isn't like USA came into the final and laid an egg, they arguably outplayed Canada, and Binnington had to make some unreal saves to keep them in it.

If he was so hurt then there is no way he should have played. Connor did not have a great tournament but he is one of the best goal scorers in the NHL. He should have been in the line up.

You’re a bit over sensitive there. I said nothing close to “Canada got lucky”, nor did I make any excuses for the US losing. “My tone”, as you imply, is inferred entirely by you as you’re looking for insults to Canada hiding everywhere.
I merely said the narrative would be a lot different if Binnington doesn’t come up huge in OT. Sorry if that rustled your Maple Flakes.
